About the role
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Supervisor (2nd Shift) supervises production employees in a manufacturing environment. This role plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures, and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions. The position ensures all safety, environmental, food safety, quality, and productivity objectives are met.
The ideal candidate works effectively in a team environment, delegates work, and adjusts plans to meet daily production goals. Strong leadership skills and a proven track record of building an engaged and productive team are essential.
Responsibilities
- Promote safety and ensure a safe work environment, including adherence to health and safety protocols.
- Lead a team of employees: hiring, onboarding, training, motivating, and holding employees accountable.
- Manage and monitor employee timecards, attendance, and provide coaching; partner with Human Resources for proper documentation.
- Direct and supervise work assignments in production areas such as Input, Blending and Cooking, Packing, Sterilization, Milling, and Dehydration.
- Set and manage expectations, provide ongoing feedback, and make staffing recommendations to achieve departmental objectives.
- Support employee retention goals and help achieve departmental objectives, business strategy, and annual budget goals.
- Perform routine safety and food safety inspections; lead internal audits with internal and external customers.
- Interpret and enforce company policies and regulations; partner with other leaders to create and implement programs.
- Partner with Quality to ensure compliance with Quality Systems, Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMP), and audit expectations.
- Monitor and assist sanitation/Quality Assurance employees to ensure proper sanitation (HACCP and GMPs).
- Monitor and manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as Performance Metrics, Safety, Quality, Service, Efficiency, Waste, Cost, and Savings.
- Actively observe materials and labor to achieve optimum capacity and cost reduction.
- Perform accident investigations, document findings, and share with appropriate teams.
- Manage and track inventory levels and department priorities set by senior leadership.
- Communicate production-related information to employees and senior leadership; provide input on production budget.
- Proactively review processes, identify improvement opportunities, and recommend changes to the Production Manager.
- Maintain cooperative working relationships with customers, vendors, employees, and peers.
- Work a flexible schedule based on facility operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED is required; Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Three (3) years of plant experience in food, pharmaceutical, or chemical industry is required. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree may substitute the degree for two (2) years of experience.
- Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) is preferred.
- Previous experience managing budgets and production financial data is preferred.
- Strong organizational and planning skills are required.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in group settings.
- Ability to work well under pressure with competing demands in a team environment.
- Certifications from agencies such as the American Society for Quality or Association for Operations Management are welcomed.
- Computer skills, including email and Microsoft Office, are required; experience with SAP and ADP is preferred.
- Minimal travel may be required.
