Production Supervisor - 2nd Shift

About the role

The Production Supervisor leads and directs daily manufacturing operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective production of Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs). This role oversees production personnel, coordinates operational activities, monitors performance metrics, and ensures compliance with all safety, quality, environmental, and production requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Safety:
    • Follow and enforce all Plant Safety Rules and Regulations
    • Conduct routine safety inspections and audits
    • Lead safety discussions during startup meetings and shift communications
    • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards
    • Promote a culture of safety ownership and accountability
  • Quality:
    • Ensure all quality procedures, inspections, and documentation requirements are followed
    • Monitor production processes and address quality concerns as they arise
    • Support 6S and Lean Manufacturing practices
  • Compliance:
    • Verify compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations
    • Complete and review Manufacturing and Quality documentation accurately
    • Communicate internally regarding deviations, nonconforming materials, customer concerns, or production issues
  • Primary Production Responsibilities:
    • Provide leadership and training to accomplish production objectives
    • Coordinate production activities with other departments
    • Establish and monitor shift performance standards
    • Work with the Operations Team to cover planned and unplanned absences
    • Lead employee startup meetings and communicate plant objectives, safety concerns, quality expectations, and operational priorities
    • Enter production data accurately into company systems
    • Update communication boards with safety, quality, production, and efficiency metrics
    • Support inventory accuracy through proper material management and production reporting
    • Assist with machine startups, changeovers, troubleshooting activities, and operational improvements
    • Conduct tool crib and operational inventory reviews
    • Direct maintenance personnel to troubleshoot equipment issues and perform preventative maintenance activities
    • Monitor staffing levels and adjust resources as necessary
    • Support workforce scheduling and manpower planning
    • Perform routine production floor observations
    • Review production schedules and coordinate workforce activities
  • Employee Leadership Responsibilities:
    • Directly supervise production employees
    • Train, coach, mentor, and develop employees
    • Conduct employee performance evaluations
    • Administer company policies consistently and fairly
    • Partner with Human Resources regarding employee relations matters, investigations, corrective actions, attendance management, and performance improvement initiatives
    • Support employee onboarding and training programs
    • Identify employee development opportunities and support succession planning efforts
  • Administrative Responsibilities:
    • Prepare and review employee worked hours for payroll submission
    • Maintain attendance records and communicate attendance concerns appropriately
    • Complete required production reports and operational documentation accurately and timely
    • Maintain production records, KPI tracking, labor utilization reports, and shift communication logs
    • Aid in workforce scheduling and manpower planning
    • Utilize company systems for production reporting, inventory transactions, inspections, and operational tracking

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Manufacturing Management, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification preferred
  • Previous Labor Relations experience preferred
  • Previous experience working in a Lean Manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Initiative and strong problem-solving skills to improve safety, quality, efficiency, productivity, and employee performance
  • Verbal Communication Skills: Effectively communicate information to operators, maintenance personnel, supervisors, management, customers, and vendors
  • Written Communication Skills: Complete production, quality, attendance, inventory, and operational records accurately and legibly
  • Prepare reports and documentation as required
  • Math Skills: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios, and production calculations
  • Ability to interpret production metrics and performance data

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. throughout the shift
  • Frequent walking in production areas and interacting with employees
  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, loud environments, airborne particles, fumes, and outside weather conditions
  • Requires good hand, eye, and foot coordination
  • Exposure to non-climate-controlled environments, including hot summer and cold winter conditions
