About the role

The Second Shift Production Supervisor leads all mattress manufacturing operations during the second shift, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, productivity, housekeeping, employee engagement, and customer satisfaction. This role supervises production associates, leads, material handlers, and other personnel to execute daily production plans while maintaining compliance with company policies, safety requirements, and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Safety Leadership
    • Lead shift safety activities and enforce FXI safety policies and procedures.
    • Conduct daily safety discussions and reinforce required PPE compliance.
    • Investigate accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and safety concerns.
    • Ensure associates follow safe work practices and equipment operating procedures.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
    • Support plant 5S, housekeeping, and showroom-ready expectations.
  • Production Management
    • Lead daily production operations to achieve schedules and customer requirements.
    • Monitor hourly production performance and implement corrective actions when targets are missed.
    • Coordinate staffing and work assignments to maximize labor efficiency.
    • Manage production flow through mattress assembly, packaging, staging, and shipping preparation.
    • Support product changeovers and schedule adjustments with minimal downtime.
    • Review work orders, production reports, and inventory transactions for accuracy.
  • Quality Management
    • Ensure products are manufactured according to customer specifications and quality standards.
    • Verify proper use of work instructions, SOPs, and quality procedures.
    • Investigate quality concerns and implement corrective actions.
    • Work with Quality and Engineering teams to address defects and customer complaints.
    • Drive first-pass yield improvements and defect reduction initiatives.
  • Team Leadership
    • Supervise, coach, develop, and motivate assigned employees.
    • Conduct daily shift meetings and communicate key operational priorities.
    • Monitor attendance and workforce performance.
    • Document performance issues and partner with HR on corrective actions.
    • Support employee training, cross-training, onboarding, and skill development.
    • Promote a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment.
  • Operational Excellence
    • Drive continuous improvement activities focused on productivity, waste reduction, and process improvement.
    • Monitor labor utilization and efficiency metrics.
    • Identify opportunities to improve workflow, reduce downtime, and increase throughput.
    • Support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and operational excellence initiatives.
    • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
  • Inventory and Material Control
    • Ensure proper material handling and inventory management practices.
    • Monitor raw material consumption and minimize waste.
    • Verify accurate production reporting and inventory transactions.
    • Coordinate with Warehouse and Planning teams to ensure uninterrupted material flow.
  • Equipment and Maintenance Coordination
    • Communicate equipment issues promptly to Maintenance.
    • Assist in prioritizing maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
    • Support preventative maintenance efforts and equipment reliability initiatives.
    • Ensure operators properly inspect and utilize equipment.
  • Administrative Responsibilities
    • Complete production reports, attendance records, disciplinary documentation, and performance tracking.
    • Maintain accurate shift communication logs.
    • Participate in daily operational meetings and provide shift performance updates.
    • Support audits, customer visits, and operational reviews as required.
  • Coldwater-Specific Focus Areas
    • Mattress assembly and packaging throughput.
    • OEE improvement.
    • MUV control.
    • Housekeeping and 5S execution.
    • Daily accountability for production targets.
    • Shift-to-shift communication.
    • Maintaining a showroom-ready operation throughout the shift.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 3 years of manufacturing leadership experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing production teams in a fast-paced operation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Mattress, bedding, furniture, foam, or assembly manufacturing experience.
  • Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement experience.

Skills

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.

  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, and climbing throughout manufacturing areas.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work around manufacturing equipment, moving machinery, forklifts, and material handling equipment.
  • Ability to work extended hours as operational requirements demand.

Work Environment

The work environment consists primarily of a manufacturing and warehouse setting. Employees may be exposed to noise, moving mechanical equipment, forklifts, varying temperatures, and production-related hazards. Appropriate PPE must be worn at all times.

Onsite; Monday - Thursday, 4:30pm - 3:00am.
