About the role

As a member of the operations team, the Production Superintendent will provide leadership and direction to ensure that production, quality, and efficiency goals are met. You will drive high-performance work teams by ensuring team leaders and teams are well trained and coached.

Responsibilities

  • Improve Quality performance
    • Decrease scrap and defects through daily review and identification of quality, efficiency, and scrap issues.
    • Lead reviews with Coaches to develop solutions or preventative measures.
    • Coordinate with the Quality department to investigate, identify, and implement corrective actions with the production team.
    • Continuously improve quality metrics and targets.
  • Drive efficiency
    • Work with Coaches and Team Leaders to drive efficiency using the production system and addressing team issues.
    • Ensure operators follow Standard Work Instructions (SWIs) and lead teams to improve them.
    • Improve station layouts, identify 8 waste opportunities, implement poka-yokes, and apply 5S methodology in work areas.
    • Lead Coaches and Team Leaders to continuously improve production metrics and targets.
  • Drive Materials and Shipping Efficiency
    • Maintain proper floats and Finished Goods Inventory levels.
    • Ensure proper material flow by enforcing FIFO (First In, First Out).
  • Drive high-performance work team culture
    • Train all team members on Lean/Kaizen principles to support a Continuous Improvement (CI) Culture.
    • Enable teams to identify and address “just do it” opportunities and resolve workplace issues independently.
    • Encourage teams to pursue roles and tasks outside of workstation assembly.
    • Support and lead team Kaizen activities.
    • Ensure 100% cross-training and job rotation within teams.
  • Lead and develop Team Leaders
    • Conduct or recommend continuous learning for Team Leaders.
    • Conduct training sessions for plant staff and production teams.
    • Select and place Team Leaders within retention goals.
    • Develop Team Leaders to be recognized as promotable successors to Coach roles.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of production/plant management experience in a manufacturing/union environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in maintaining positive employment relations.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Excellent organizational and computer skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
