Production -Prep Cook
Boston is one of the most beautiful and important cities in the country—rich in history, energy, and culinary excellence. After twenty years of building Hawksmoor in the UK, Ireland, Chicago, and New York, we're opening our third US restaurant in Fort Point in fall 2026. Located at 15 Necco Street (a Platinum LEED-certified building), our new space will feature seating for 200+ guests, private dining and event spaces, a James Beard-recognized bar program, sweeping views of Fort Point Channel, and an outdoor terrace.
About the role
As a Hawksmoor Production Cook, you play a key role in the smooth and successful operation of the restaurant. You are responsible for consistently maintaining Hawksmoor’s food quality and standards while completing prep efficiently and working closely with the wider culinary team to deliver exceptional dishes and service.
Responsibilities
- Competently complete prep efficiently, accurately, and to Hawksmoor standards daily.
- Demonstrate competent knife skills, including fish and meat preparation.
- Maintain Hawksmoor standards in all preps and consistently follow recipes—taste everything and ensure accuracy and excellence.
- Show a basic knowledge of food products and quality, including correct storage and shelf life.
- Maintain a clean, safe, well-organized, and efficient prep environment at all times.
- Support Line Cooks or Porters when required to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
- Maintain a deep understanding of Hawksmoor beef, suppliers, and sourcing.
- Embody Hawksmoor values with a positive, proactive, and professional attitude.
- Seek out, welcome, and act on feedback from peers and managers.
- Support other team members during prep, service, and breakdown, contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Show genuine care for both the team and the overall guest experience.
- Debrief and hand over prep notes and updates to the next shift via work chat and verbal communication.
- Adhere to all allergy awareness, cleanliness, and food safety procedures.
- Complete all required training and consistently uphold hygiene standards.
- Follow opening and closing checklists accurately and consistently to maintain a safe and compliant kitchen and prep area.
- Take responsibility for the clean, efficient running of your station.
- Ensure all prep and tools are stored correctly, labeled, and cleaned.
- Manage time effectively to support team priorities and daily operational needs.
- Maintain good product rotation and understand par levels for service requirements.
- Recognize how errors affect both guest experience and the wider business.
- Compile non-consumable orders for management as required.
- Receive and correctly store deliveries.
- Follow stock rotation and storage procedures.
- Execute prep tasks efficiently while maintaining accuracy and quality.
- Actively work to reduce waste and improve efficiency in the kitchen.
- Comply with lateness and absence policies.
- Use inclusive, respectful language and treat everyone with empathy and fairness.
- Be knowledgeable about Hawksmoor’s charity partners and sustainability goals.
- Actively follow waste reduction and recycling initiatives.
- Understand ingredient sourcing and the significance of Hawksmoor being a B Corporation.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Mobility: Must be able to move continuously around the dining room, kitchen, and bar areas during the shift.
- Lifting & Carrying: Occasionally lifts and carries trays, plates, and items weighing up to ~25 to 30 lbs.
- Communication: Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with guests, kitchen staff, and management.
- Cognitive: Ability to process guest requests, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and prioritize efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Work Environment: Regularly exposed to moderate to loud noise levels consistent with a high-volume restaurant; fast-paced and requires multi-tasking under pressure.
