A Production Control Planner coordinates and expedites the flow of jobs and materials within or between departments according to daily and weekly production schedules. The role involves planning work orders, reducing past-due jobs, and communicating changes in work orders and material status. The Planner develops and communicates build schedules across Production, Supply Chain, Warehousing, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and Program Management departments while supporting Continuous Improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all work orders contain the correct versions of drawings, designs, programs, and methods.
- Create build schedules and prioritize jobs to meet ship dates.
- Assist in the creation of capacity plans.
- Report on hours, equipment, and raw materials variances used to produce jobs.
- Communicate schedule performance with Production Leadership.
- Verify that all jobs are transacted completely in MRP; report and resolve delays in transaction workflow.
- Communicate expedites of operations and materials; develop recovery schedules for unforeseen conditions.
- Work with Department Leaders to ensure execution of work orders by the Build Schedule.
- Act upon the disposition of Non-Conformance Reports to replan replacement or rework jobs within the current schedule.
- Recommend alternative Build Plans for assigned departments/programs.
- Assist other Planners and Buyers in implementing planning and scheduling tools.
- Support configuration changes by advising best “SS Cut-in” dates approved through the Change Control Board.
- Provide necessary information for the Production Control Centre of Excellence Board.
- Promote a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with the ZACS Safety Manual.
- Interface effectively with management, other departments, and coworkers.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer skills with familiarity of ERP systems.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- 5 years of Planning and/or Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a desire to work in a team environment.
- Previous Production Control experience preferred.
- Experience in Capacity Planning preferred.

Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Normal office environment with approximately 80% of work performed sitting; remaining time involves walking and moving around office, stores, and manufacturing areas.
- Ability to work effectively at video display terminals for extended periods.
- Normal mental and visual attention along with manual coordination for keyboard operations (~80% of the time).
- Normal or corrected hearing and vision required.
- Duties require typical bending, stooping, reaching, stretching, etc., with lifting typically limited to 10-20 lbs. maximum.
Primary location: United States-North Carolina-Greensboro. Full-time, exempt position.
