Production Planner

About the role

The Production Planner analyzes customer demand and creates work orders daily according to facility capacity, ensuring on-time delivery and balanced production lines to meet customer due dates. This role involves setting daily, weekly, and monthly manufacturing schedules by evaluating customer orders, staff availability, and inventory capacity. The position requires strong organization and planning skills to manage schedules for multiple production lines, monitor manufacturing performance, and adjust schedules in response to equipment failures or supply shortages. The goal is to coordinate production plans efficiently to reduce in-process inventory and shop floor downtime.

Reports to: Manufacturing Manager.

Responsibilities

• Release job orders and provide closeout analysis.
• Schedule production, check for capacity issues, and provide feedback to the planning manager/supervisors.
• Work with operations to obtain materials for production and resolve delays.
• Set and maintain minimum/maximum inventory levels for production.
• Reschedule daily priorities and expedite tasks to meet customer needs.
• Help forecast and make recommendations to meet customer requirements.
• Collaborate with departments such as Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality Control, and Materials to ensure on-time delivery.
• Monitor inventory accuracy and implement changes to address deficiencies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required (Supply Chain Management, Business Management, or similar field).
• 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing planning or scheduling position.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
