Production Operator

Responsibilities

  • Read and follow instructions for operations procedure on various machinery and processes.
  • Operate machines to feed, cut, form, punch holes, bend, and mold metal stock.
  • Record Statistical Process Control (SPC) on all materials when required.
  • Visually inspect finished product and immediately notify proper department or supervisor if problems arise.
  • Package materials for shipping, ensuring correct count, proper boxes, and labeling.
  • Shrink wrap material as needed.
  • Empty metal waste receptacle when required.
  • Rack and un-rack various products from the assembly line (Plater or Powder Coater Lines).
  • Load washer and clean metal debris out of machines as it accumulates, following safety procedures.
  • Perform welding or riveting as required.
  • Perform miscellaneous procedures to keep machinery working properly and produce a quality product.
  • Assist as Production Coordinator when requested by supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area at all times.
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.

Training Requirements

  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Linear Measuring.
  • Problem Solving Training as required by supervisor.

Equipment and Tools

Typical machines and equipment involved:

  • Punch Presses, Trim Presses, and Benders
  • Roll Form and Form Presses
  • Assembly Racking Lines and Shrink Wrap Machines
  • Welding Machine
  • Rolls of Steel
  • Cardboard boxes, tape, etc.

Tools and gages:

  • Dial Caliper, Protractor, Micrometers
  • Various measurement gages

Typical products involved:

  • Steel, aluminum, oils, soaps, lubricants, chemicals
  • Packing materials, boxes

Qualifications

  • Ability to complete Statistical Process Control Charts (SPC).
  • Reading and following simple instructions.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Minor problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability and willingness to maintain flexibility in job assignments.

  • Reaching Overhead (maximum height 5'8" or 6'6" at PC #7)
  • Removing, Visual Inspection, Sorting, Stooping
  • Standing, Stretching, Turning & Twisting, Walking
  • Welding and Writing

Non-essential tasks:

  • Cleaning, Climbing, Collating (essential in P.C. #3 only)
  • Coordination (hand/foot), Dialing, Hearing, Opening
  • Pounding, Heavy Pulling & Pushing (40-50 lbs.)
  • Sitting, Speaking, Raking, Sweeping, Stapling
  • Threading, Typing/Keyboard (used in Production Coordination only)
  • Unfolding, Unlocking, Weighing

Duties as Production Coordinator require 80% office and computer input duties, which are less physical but require the ability to perform duties of a Production Operator.

Work Environment

The work environment involves exposure to:

  • Moving mechanical parts
  • Noise, dust, dirt, oils, some chemicals, and odors
  • Uncomfortable environmental temperatures at times

Hazards:

  • Minor scratches and bruises
  • Possible skin irritations due to oils and chemicals
