About the role
The Equipment Operator position is available in the Transportation and Public Works/Stormwater Operations Division of the City of Fort Worth. This role involves maintaining over 1,000 miles of storm drainpipe and approximately 300 miles of open channels to ensure citizens' safety from flooding.
Responsibilities
- Pulling and hooking up high-pressure hoses when cleaning storm drains and pipes
- Operating various hand tools
- Identifying and cleaning storm lines, manholes, and inlets as necessary
- Working in all weather conditions and being able to crawl into pipes and inlets ranging from 18” in diameter and up, willing to get dirty
- Performing equipment operations and manual labor duties related to maintenance operations
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED
- One (1) year of experience in operation of heavy equipment or construction experience
- Possession of a Class A Driver’s License and ability to obtain a Tank Endorsement within six (6) months of hire; Operations of a vactor as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
- Work zone safety
- Confined space entry
- Additional construction repair and maintenance experience
- Experience with various hand tools, vacuum trucks, and tools or equipment related to assigned division
- Basic computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Office
