About the role

Within established guidelines, performs various functions associated with the fabrication of contact lenses using appropriate machines and equipment. These operations are of a repetitive nature and require training within the scope of an approved SOP. Works in a team manufacturing environment receiving direction from the Production Coordinators and/or Technicians. Demonstrates qualities which show an interest and competency level for future advancement. This position allows the employee to become familiar with the advanced, quality-critical stages of manufacturing contact lenses.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of work areas and apply continuous improvement methods.
  • Operate specialized equipment necessary for specific product groups (e.g., automated lathing/injection molding and metrology equipment).
  • Independently operate a wide range of automated equipment and meet production goals.
  • Strictly adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform multiple job functions within the business and flex to other production areas as business needs dictate.
  • Contribute to lean/Six Sigma projects as required.
  • Assist coordinators and/or technicians in managing workflow when required.
  • Demonstrate the capacity and desire to participate on and lead teams.
  • Work extended hours, including mandatory overtime, to complete daily department goals or tasks as business needs dictate.
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

Requirements

  • Exhibit good communication skills—verbal, written, and comprehension of the English language—to read, understand, and apply Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Proficiency in the operation of and basic troubleshooting of automated equipment.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate the desire for personal and professional continuous improvement.
  • Attain a strong knowledge and understanding of SOPs, regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA Regulations), and cGMPs in the assigned product group, including the consequences of not following them.
  • Regularly apply GMP standards in production activities.
  • Adhere to and promote safety practices.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Basic computer experience, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Adhere to attendance and work schedule requirements that are subject to change.

Work Environment

  • Works scheduled holidays and overtime to maintain service levels for customers.
  • Time spent performing the following activities:
    • Standing (>75%)

    • Hand/eye coordination (>75%)
    • Finger/wrist dexterity (>75%)
    • Grasping/pinching (>75%)
    • Lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Environmental factors:
    • Noisy conditions
    • Dusty conditions
    • Exposure to chemicals or solvents
    • Work near moving mechanical parts (>75%)

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Manufacturing or packaging experience in a regulated environment is preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Completion of a technical certification or related educational program is preferred.

Pay

The target starting rate for this role is $20.00 per hour. This position includes a 15% shift differential for eligible hours worked.
