About the role

The Group Coach (Production Manager) role exists to ensure that problems are solved at the correct level, systems are improving not just results, and Team Coaches are capable, confident, and effective in running daily operations.

Responsibilities

  • Own daily safety, quality, delivery, and standard work performance across multiple teams
  • Ensure alignment and consistency of standard work and takt time across the group
  • Lead daily and weekly tiered management routines and visual management reviews
  • Monitor flow, staffing, and constraints across teams to maintain stable operations
  • Reinforce 5S, safety standards, and disciplined execution across the group
  • Respond to escalated safety, quality, or flow issues that exceed the Team Coach’s scope
  • Support Team Coaches in real-time problem response using an andon escalation mindset
  • Ensure problems are addressed at the lowest capable level, not absorbed upward
  • Remove systemic obstacles preventing Team Coaches from solving problems effectively
  • Coach, mentor, and develop Team Coaches as leaders and teachers
  • Conduct regular gemba walks focused on coaching behaviors, not auditing
  • Observe Team Coach interactions and provide direct, constructive feedback
  • Set clear expectations for leadership presence, problem-solving, and standard adherence
  • Model TPS leadership behaviors through calm, structured problem-solving
  • Lead and support cross-team problem-solving using TPS principles
  • Ensure root causes are addressed, not bypassed with short-term fixes
  • Validate that countermeasures are effective, sustained, and standardized
  • Drive learning across teams by sharing best practices and lessons learned
  • Balance continuous improvement efforts with daily execution requirements
  • Own training systems and readiness across the group
  • Identify leadership and technical capability gaps
  • Support onboarding, development, and succession planning for Team Coaches

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience leading operations in manufacturing, construction, or field execution environments
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop frontline leaders through coaching
  • Strong systems-level understanding of safety, quality, delivery, and standard work
  • Proven ability to manage multiple teams in fast-paced, problem-rich environments
  • Prior experience leading frontline leaders (Team Leads, Coaches, Supervisors)
  • Advanced familiarity with standard work, visual management, and structured problem-solving
  • Preferred experience operating in high-growth or operationally complex environments
