Production Manager
UFP Technologies is a designer and custom manufacturer of comprehensive solutions for medical devices, sterile packaging, and other highly engineered custom products. The company is a valued outsource partner to top medical device manufacturers worldwide, specializing in single-use and single-patient devices and components used in minimally invasive surgery, infection prevention, wound care, wearables, orthopedic soft goods, and orthopedic implants.
About the role
This Production Manager is responsible for providing overall leadership to production supervisors with the primary objective to meet or exceed customer expectations. The role involves setting goals and objectives, planning and utilizing resources effectively within safety and quality standards, and initiating and managing quality and cost improvement activities. This position collaborates with departments such as Quality, Supply Chain, and HR, as well as outside vendors and customers.
Location: On-site full-time in Chicopee, MA. The position holder must be within commuting distance (within 45 minutes). Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. Visa sponsorship is not available at this time.
Responsibilities
- Provides direction and leadership to production supervisors, including setting goals and objectives, coaching, feedback, and performance appraisals.
- Tracks and supports production schedules, identifying shortfalls early and developing recovery schedules as needed while communicating with customer service.
- Communicates directly with customers and sales support regarding delivery issues.
- Monitors on-time delivery performance and implements corrective action when service levels fall below targets.
- Monitors labor and equipment performance against established standards, implementing corrective actions such as employee training, documenting SOPs, and initiating process improvements.
- Balances staffing levels to reduce overtime spending while maintaining service levels.
- Manages overall production performance, including safety, productivity, cost effectiveness, quality, and other key metrics, reporting results to management.
- Maintains communication and documentation of changes to production processes and SOPs in collaboration with the Quality Department.
- Works with production supervisors and Human Resources to reduce turnover and improve attendance and retention of employees.
- Maintains high levels of communication with employees at all levels, customers, and vendors.
- Drives initiatives to increase safety awareness within the production department.
- Performs all other duties as assigned or needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of operations management experience in manufacturing leadership.
- Demonstrated strong leadership skills with exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- ERP (Epicor) knowledge preferred.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to take direction and work independently.
- High level of personal integrity and self-control.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to take initiative with a demonstrated passion for getting the job done right the first time.
- Ability to see the "big picture" while managing details.
