Production Manager

About the Role

As the Production Manager, you will oversee all aspects of the production process, from planning and scheduling to ensuring production targets are met on time and within budget. You will manage and coordinate production teams, ensuring they are properly trained, motivated, and equipped to maintain high-quality standards and efficient workflow. This role involves driving continuous improvement initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and overseeing communication with third-party co-manufacturers.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage all aspects of the production process, including planning, scheduling, and execution to meet targets.
• Manage and coordinate production teams, providing leadership, training, and support to optimize performance.
• Monitor and adjust production schedules to optimize resource utilization, reduce downtime, and maintain operational flow.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production processes, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (purchasing, quality, sales, logistics) to resolve production issues and improve efficiency.
• Oversee communication with third-party co-manufacturers and escalate issues as needed.
• Utilize independent judgment to assess production issues, determine solutions, and adjust processes for optimal efficiency and quality.
• Make decisions on production schedules, resource allocation, process improvements, and staffing levels to meet goals.
• Monitor production costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction without compromising quality or safety.
• Review production reports, track key performance indicators, and make data-driven decisions to improve operations.
• Lead lean manufacturing and process optimization initiatives.
• Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and manage team needs to ensure production goals are met.
• Prepare and present production reports to senior management, highlighting key metrics and areas for improvement.
• Analyze production data to identify opportunities for cost reduction and process optimization.
• Lead and mentor production staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
• Monitor inventory levels of raw materials and finished products to minimize downtime and align with customer expectations.
• Work with the procurement team to manage and forecast material needs.
• Maintain awareness of challenges at contract manufacturing locations that could impact production.
• Develop and implement production schedules aligned with company goals and customer demands.
• Resolve issues that may violate established contract manufacturing agreements.

Requirements

• 5–7 years of experience in production or operations management, supply chain, manufacturing, or a related field.
• 2–3 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Experience developing and managing production schedules in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to lead and develop teams while ensuring adherence to production schedules.
• In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations in a production or manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Production Management, Food Science, Business Administration, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 5 years of combined experience in production coordination and/or supply chain, preferably in the food manufacturing industry.
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in production management software and Microsoft Office Suite, with strong skills in MS Excel.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Physical Requirements

• Work involves sitting for more than 50% of the workday, with walking and standing as needed.
• Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, operating machinery controls, or handling materials.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
• Ability to visually inspect products and materials at close range.
• Must be able to work in varying environmental conditions, including noise, temperature fluctuations, and exposure to manufacturing equipment.
• Climate-controlled work environment (68–72°F) year-round.
• Must be able to lift 30 lbs or greater.

Schedule

Full-time office hours are typically 8:30 AM–5:00 PM, Monday–Friday, with occasional overtime.
