About the role
We are seeking a Production Manager to join a growing and effective team that solves customer challenges. This individual will actively manage our technical workforce, interface with the Quality Department, and oversee technicians to ensure on-time delivery of all materials and services required for smooth shop operations. The Production Manager will also liaise between the production department and the Engineering and Sales teams to provide an accurate and timely bidirectional flow of information.
The candidate must have proven achievement in problem-solving and decision-making, balancing technical, resource, and regulatory constraints to tackle intricate issues.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of technicians in their daily operations.
- Prioritize shop work assignments to meet promised turnaround times and customer commitments.
- Manage available shop resources to ensure efficient flow of work into and out of the shop.
- Strategically cross-train technical team members to ensure continuity and stability of the workforce.
- Work alongside the technical workforce to address challenges as they occur.
- Work on live work orders directly as time and scheduling permit.
- Hire (as necessary), schedule, and train Technicians (training responsibilities are shared with the Quality Department).
- Actively engage in problem-solving and troubleshooting of daily issues in Engineering, Procurement, and Quality Departments.
- Monitor the performance and quality of the technical workforce, providing leadership, mentorship, and correction when appropriate.
- Ensure the technical team follows all relevant work instructions, company procedures, and safety regulations.
- Report to the Managing Director, providing constant and timely updates on current operating conditions and challenges.
- Support and manage FAA production facilities at diverse locations.
- Directly oversee Technicians.
- Ensure production areas remain neat, organized, and safe.
- Interact with the Director of Quality and Sales team on a peer basis to ensure free flow of information and resources between departments.
- Lead the identification and recruitment process when new technical hires are required.
- Drive process improvements to achieve goals for safety, quality, delivery (to both internal and external customers), and productivity.
- Identify and recommend improvement projects.
- Participate in and facilitate improvement project teams, including benchmarking and efficiency reviews.
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective means of communicating key performance indicators.
Requirements
- Over 5 years of directly related experience at an MRO.
- Direct technical “hands-on” experience in the types of components we service.
- Little to no travel required.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical or Management Discipline (Engineering, Science, Business Management, Aviation Sciences, Electronic Sciences, etc.).
Skills
- Proven technical and management ability.
- Broad authority to proactively propose and implement process improvements across production, sourcing, and repair station workflow for overall product improvements and cost reduction.
