Production Manager
About the role
Clayton is a leading single-family, values-driven home builder dedicated to attainable housing, sustainable practices, and creating a world-class experience for customers and team members. The Heibar Indiana Production Manager (PM) will help with the start-up of a new location for Heibar, a division of Clayton Homes, playing a critical role in hiring, establishing operating procedures, ensuring training for a new team, and coordinating the project on the ground. The Heibar team manufactures site-built construction components like roof and floor trusses, and wall panels. This position will support our site-built partner Arbor Homes, initially manufacturing roof and floor trusses, with plans to expand to wall panels in the future.
Responsibilities
- Lead large groups of people and develop a culture of accountability working as a team.
- Ensure strict adherence and compliance with quality assurance requirements.
- Prioritize safety, adhering to strict safety rules and guidelines.
- Review production performance and identify training opportunities for production personnel.
- Direct teams effectively to ensure timelines and production priorities are met.
- Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and direction for personnel development and employee engagement.
- Improve production processes to enhance quality, reduce lead-times, and lower operational costs using Lean Manufacturing methods, 5S, Kaizen, etc.
- Track and communicate KPIs to team members and senior leadership on a daily basis.
- Review P&L statements and make operational changes to positively impact financials.
- Engage daily with team members, communicating prior day’s production and current day’s goals.
- Ensure products meet or exceed internal and external customer quality standards (MOD Building codes) and required delivery schedules.
- Create strategies to reduce labor costs, reduce scrap, and ensure defect-free products.
Requirements
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and basic math skills.
- Detail-oriented with effective multi-tasking abilities.
- Ability to read and understand building specifications (greatly desired).
- Demonstrated adherence to safety protocols.
- Ability to adapt quickly and make sound decisions in a fast-paced, changing work environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant leadership experience.
- Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing Principles (preferred).
- Previous construction experience (strongly preferred).
- Experience in manufactured housing (greatly desired).
- Working knowledge of P&L statements.
- Experience with Quality Programs and Root Cause Analysis (e.g., ISO9001, 8D 5 Why).
- Experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment (preferred).
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Work may require stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, pushing, and/or pulling.
- Work environment is not temperature-controlled and may expose you to extreme temperatures.
- Work primarily involves sitting/standing for up to 4 hours at a time.
Location & Travel
This role is based in Morristown, IN, with estimated travel required of less than 10%.
