Production Maintenance Technician - 3rd Shift
About the role
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing the maintenance of various equipment within the facility, including high-pressure processing (HPP) and value-added services (VAS) equipment, building and facilities equipment, powered industrial equipment, and stationary equipment. This role also involves troubleshooting, adjusting, and replacing electrical and mechanical components.
Responsibilities
- Repair and maintain high pressure processing equipment, feed and removal systems and VAS equipment, such as conveyors, tape machines, etc.
- Perform scheduled Preventative Maintenance checks and testing of sensors and other electric components, replace wear parts on normal replacement schedule.
- Perform major PM's which require machine downtime and rebuild such as Wedge, Plug, Vessel alignment, etc.
- Troubleshoot, adjust, and replace AC and DC electrical equipment such as controls, proximity sensors, fuses, motor starters, relays, switches and timers.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair and/or replace mechanical components such as motors, drive chains, sprockets, sheaves, pulleys, rollers, conveyor belts, bearings, and transfer plates.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair and/or replace pneumatic equipment such as hydronic and hydraulic seals, high pressure components, air compressors, pumps, hoses and cylinders.
- Maintain all maintenance tools in place and good working order on the shop floor shadow board.
- Maintain adequate stock on the shadow board of commonly needed preformed tubing and key spare parts.
- Test the equipment before returning to the Machine Operator or Lead. Ensure all tools and replaced parts have been removed and machinery is left in food ready sanitary condition or reported to the Supervisor if a CIP is required.
- Adhere to the facility’s Document Control Policy following completion of training.
- Follow health, safety, and cleanliness standards. Maintain work areas on the shop floor and in the Maintenance Shop in a sanitary manner following all applicable GMP requirements.
- Handle any minor tasks related to the duties of the position.
- Minimized maintenance downtime is the key accountability but there are expectations around diagnosing issues quickly, thoroughly and correctly; returning equipment to service in a safe, sanitary manner, correct the 1st time.
- Maintain all tools in safe working order in tool boxes, cabinets and shadow boards.
- All commonly used spare parts maintained at expected levels, on shadow boards, close to the point of use.
Additional Responsibilities
- On-call ability as needed to support the business.
- Rotating weekend work will be required for major preventative maintenance tasks, rebuilding of machines and to support weekend processing.
- This position is required to be on the shop floor the bulk of the time to continually interact with the Line Leads and Machine Operators as well as to observe and hear the performance of the machines to identify potential issues as early as possible.
- Provides parts and supplies inventory info or other report information to leadership team.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a Food Processing or Refrigerated Warehouse facility is strongly preferred.
- Welding Experience preferred but not required.
- Experience with Ammonia or Glycol refrigeration systems is preferred but not required.
Minimum Qualifications
- The Maintenance Tech role is broken into 5 levels of competency detailed in the Skill Level Detail Appendix.
- Skill in all items in the Level are required before being moved into that Level.
- Competency in the site-specific OEM (Avure or Hiperbaric) required.
- Skill will be observed in tests and ongoing observation of quality of work by the Department Supervisor / Manager or corporate Engineering Manager.
- Ability to read and understand schematic diagrams, parts manuals, equipment specification and repair manuals and videos of maintenance techniques is all required.
- Successfully complete a certified OSHA 10 hour or 30 training course and completion of Vector Solutions Electrical Technician training for the appropriate Technician Level.
- Must have flexibility with work schedule and job duties when the location environment changes.
- Weekend work, or occasional change of shifts is required to cover shutdown work and other staff absences (PTO, leave, etc.).
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

- Able to prioritize and perform position responsibilities accurately and to deadline.
- Minimum 5 yrs experience in Manufacturing or 2 years previous experience in maintenance at a basic level.
Testing
Testing under Managerial observation will be performed to determine starting Level of new hire.
Working Conditions
- Within a manufacturing, warehousing, and production type facility.
- Must be able to withstand refrigeration temperatures for up to 4 hours at a time.
- Occasional work in a Freezer (0 F) may be required.
- Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally, greater.
- Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.
- The work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Work may involve potential exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
