This is a hybrid remote position focused on large-scale electric distribution construction projects. Candidates must have experience with overhead and underground electrical distribution infrastructure and enjoy working outdoors with a high degree of independence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide construction oversight on electrical distribution lines and substation construction projects.
  • Interpret complex plans and drawings.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings, constructability meetings, and status meetings as directed.
  • Manage and oversee production of vendor crews.
  • Perform safety audits on crews and track/report findings; collaborate with crews to mitigate deficiencies.
  • Monitor and report to project management on the status of construction units estimated and actual billed to date.
  • Ensure all field operations comply with permits.
  • Communicate daily with utility clients, contractors, landowners, and the general public.
  • Perform duties in a manner that promotes and maintains good public relations.
  • Respond to emergency call-out and storm restoration needs with little advance notice.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of field and/or management experience with overhead (OH) and underground (URD) electrical distribution.
  • Strong communication skills pertaining to field production and production management.
  • Understanding of safety policies and knowledge of Florida Power and Light (FPL) applications and construction standards.
  • Must live within 45 minutes of the FPL assigned service area.
  • Must be available for storm response and area duty.
  • Physically fit to walk uneven terrain and work in inclement weather.
  • Basic computer and smartphone skills.
  • Desire to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
  • Strong public relations skills and ability to interface with the public.
  • Willingness to work alone.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet all company driving safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, construction management, building science, or a related field.
  • Previous construction crew senior management experience.
  • Knowledge of programs such as WMS, StormForce, ADMS, and RSV.
  • Line worker certifications.
  • GIS experience.
  • Strong knowledge of ANSI and OSHA safety standards.
  • Military background.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish).

Working Environment

Work is performed alone in an outdoor field environment, including vehicle and foot patrol of utility power lines in remote, urban, and city settings. The role involves physical demands such as walking/hiking on various surfaces (flat, dry, wet, slippery, uneven, rough, steep terrain, hills, and slopes), exposure to noise, dust, grease, and all types of weather and temperature conditions, as well as hazardous traffic conditions. Physical Requirements

  • Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment.
  • Walk up to 10 miles per day, stand, sit, and operate a motor vehicle for prolonged periods.
  • Frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, run, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and perform repetitive hand, arm, and shoulder movements (e.g., forcefully beat down brush).
  • Carry, push, and/or pull light to heavy amounts of weight; frequently lift up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 60 lbs. (e.g., sandbags).
  • Operate assigned equipment and vehicles, including handheld computers, range finders, fyrakes, water backpacks, shovels, and traffic cones.
  • Ability to verbally communicate to exchange information with the public.
  • Ability to see and hear within normal range with or without correction.
