Essential Functions

  • Lead and manage multiple sow farms by partnering with and developing unit managers.
  • Frequently conduct farm site visits to provide hands-on production support and guidance.
  • Regularly work alongside farm employees to build relationships and oversee processes.
  • Auxiliary oversight of production status, safety, and compliance.
  • Assessment of production numbers and evaluation of factors impacting goals.
  • Ensuring managers and farm personnel have necessary training, supplies, and tools.
  • Assistance in troubleshooting health challenges.
  • Communication and collaboration with PCM, veterinarians, other departments, and farm owners.
  • Continuous improvement efforts in animal health and welfare.
  • Benchmarking production results against industry and client standards.
  • Implementation of protocols under PCM's direction.
  • Supporting managers in driving employee engagement.
  • Adherence to biosecurity procedures and promotion of safe animal handling practices.
  • Occasional interim unit management or additional support.
  • Use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Internet Explorer for report running, document creation, data entry, and document navigation.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday. Occasional long hours and weekend work, particularly during health and staffing challenges, may be required.

Travel

This position requires extensive travel, primarily involving frequent out-of-area and overnight trips to clients' locations.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED diploma, or 5 years of related sow farm experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience on a sow farm in gestation and/or farrowing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all areas of breeding and gestation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all areas of farrowing.
  • Keen ability to analyze and interpret production records.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, teamwork, production, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 2+ years’ experience as a Lead on a sow farm in gestation and/or farrowing.
  • Experience with nursery and finishing pigs.
  • Previous leadership experience, training, and/or other relevant certification(s).
  • Previous human resources experience, training, and/or other relevant certifications(s).
  • 2 – 4-year degree in Animal Science or Veterinary Technician.
  • Demonstrated skills in using Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Internet Explorer.
