About the role

Under the supervision of the Area Supervisor/Manager, this position serves as a key resource providing direction on processes, procedures, and information within the assigned area. The role is accountable for the team’s overall departmental safety, quality, productivity, performance, customer service, and process improvements. Works closely with other departments and management to ensure daily objectives are met with an assigned team of associates.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a Safety Culture using JCI tools and best practices, and participate in JCI programs and committees to empower employees to take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others.
  • Train new or existing employees on proper processes and equipment in the department, including knowledge of JSAs, PPE usage, 5S, and all safety regulations.
  • Monitor and drive improvements to departmental metrics, including Safety, Quality, On-Time Delivery, Customer Service, Production Cost, and Inventory Management.
  • Track scrap rates, productivity, on-time delivery, and standard hours.
  • Collaborate with the Quality department to resolve customer complaints and supplier issues.
  • Work with other departments and management to determine daily work assignments that meet customer requirements, adjusting priorities as needed.
  • Assign daily job tasks to team members, defining realistic objectives while considering time constraints and resource availability.
  • Manage bottlenecks in processes to improve workflow, reduce work-in-process, and manage capacity.
  • Develop unique and novel solutions to problems, using root cause analysis to resolve production issues.
  • Drive process changes and provide factual support for procedural improvements, distinguishing value-add from non-value-add activities.
  • Coach and build teamwork among peers, fostering high morale and delivering on team commitments.
  • Communicate goals to team members on the manufacturing floor and provide positive reinforcement to outside departments to ensure facility-wide cohesiveness.
  • Escalate personnel issues to Human Resources in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by working overtime, moving between shifts for training or coverage, and conducting meetings with a sense of urgency.
  • Use computer software such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and ERP systems to look up production orders, manage inventory, and assist in production.
  • Perform material handling, set-up, and other departmental duties as required.
  • Complete other assignments as directed by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Some training and/or supervisory experience desired.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead change in a team environment and build effective teams.
  • Creative thinker with a collaborative style and the ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with ambiguity while making effective decisions.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and drive results in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn the organization’s structure, policies, culture, resources, and information sources.
  • Ability to train new employees.
  • Ability to read, communicate, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals in English.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Work in a noisy, dusty, industrial/manufacturing environment, exposed to non-toxic fumes, chemicals, grease, and oils.
  • Work with machinery, moving parts, and moving vehicles.
  • Operate cranes, trucks, motor vehicles, ladders, and scaffolding.
  • Work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Properly lift, carry, push, pull, manipulate, or transport up to 30 lbs regularly, occasionally lift 50 lbs, and frequently lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
  • Perform repetitive motions involving fingers, hands, and wrists.
  • Physical exertion including long periods of standing or walking on hard concrete surfaces.
  • Exposure to recurring bending, crouching, stooping, kneeling, sitting, climbing, stretching, or similar activities.
  • Ability to reach at high levels.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and communicate in English.
  • Physical strength and ability to work more than 40 hours weekly as needed.

Pay

Starting hourly rate: $23.00. The final rate will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, internal equity, and market alignment.
