Production Laborer VA I

M-F 6:00am - 2:30pm, $19.00/hour

About the role

Atkore is a leading provider of electrical, safety and infrastructure solutions with a global network of manufacturing and distribution facilities. We are seeking a Production Laborer VA I based in Santa Paula, CA, reporting to the Production Manager. This role involves assembling finished products, inspecting for quality, and operating machinery in a manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the production line
• Load and unload parts from machines
• Feed or place items onto equipment for processing
• Ensure conformance to quality specifications
• Pull damaged or non-conforming parts off the line
• Scrap waste material from parts
• Read and interpret gauges
• Clean, sweep, mop, and remove debris from the production area daily
• Work with the daily production schedule
• Take instruction from production supervisors, leads, and coordinators
• Read and understand department metrics
• Stand for long periods of time
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• One (1) year of production experience in a manufacturing setting
• Ability to maintain quality, safety, and effective control standards
• Ability to understand and follow safety procedures
• Knowledge of light equipment operation and/or maintenance
• Ability to interpret and execute standard work instructions
• Ability to read, sort, check, count, and verify numbers
• Ability to perform simple arithmetic
• Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel
• Ability to lift heavy objects up to 60 lbs
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment
• Ability to familiarize and follow the 5S company program
• Ability to work independently and in a team when necessary

Milestones

Within 3 months, you’ll:

• Complete your Atkore immersion program
• Understand your team and your role within it, and how it supports Atkore’s strategy
• Understand departmental Standard Work and Atkore’s policies and procedures
• Understand department metrics
• Assist with the product line and load/unload parts onto machines

Within 6 months, you’ll:

• Ensure parts conform to specifications by identifying nonconforming parts and pulling them off the line
• Work efficiently as a team within the department to meet daily target goals
• Detect problems and report information as necessary
• Scrap waste material from products
• Read and interpret gauges

Within 12 months, you’ll:

• Ensure full adherence to 5S practices
• Follow department standard work procedures, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety and environmental policies
