About the Program

Stagecraft Production & Managerial Arts is a Career Technical Education (CTE) pathway in the Arts, Media, & Entertainment sector, offered at both AHS and CHS. This program introduces students to technical theater and live event production through a structured sequence of courses.

Course Sequence

  • Production, Engineering, & Design 1 (Introductory)

    Introduction to technical theater and live event production. Students learn:

    • Shop and stage safety
    • Scenic construction basics
    • Painting and properties
    • Costume/wardrobe support
    • Fundamentals of lighting and sound (hang/focus, microphones, basic mixing)

    Emphasis on collaboration and problem-solving backstage. UC Approval: Visual Arts F Concentrator.

  • Production, Engineering, & Design 2 (Intermediate)

    Intermediate design and production practices, including:

    • Drafting/CAD for scenery
    • Light plots and cueing
    • Console operation (e.g., ETC/QLab concepts)
    • Rigging fundamentals
    • Projection/media
    • Stage management workflows

    Students take on department roles in school productions and mentor introductory students. UC Approval: Elective G.

  • Production, Engineering, & Design 3 (Capstone – Junior/Senior)

    Capstone leadership in roles such as technical direction, head electrician/audio lead, or stage manager. Students:

    • Build a portfolio (photos, plots, cue sheets)
    • Manage budgets and schedules
    • Execute safe, professional-quality productions across scenery, lighting, sound, and run crew

    UC Approval: Elective G.
