About the role
We are looking for a Product & Regulatory Counsel to join our Legal team and help shape the future of business banking. This role will work closely with senior leadership, bank partners, and cross-functional teams to support Novo’s legal, regulatory, and product initiatives.
You will play a key role in navigating complex regulatory environments, advising on product development, and ensuring Novo operates in compliance with applicable financial laws and partner requirements.
Responsibilities
- Partner with product, compliance, and business teams to provide practical legal guidance on product development and regulatory requirements
- Serve as a key legal point of contact for bank partner relationships, supporting ongoing regulatory and contractual matters
- Interpret and advise on U.S. banking regulations, including customer protection frameworks such as UDAAP
- Support the management of litigation matters, including coordination with external counsel
- Draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial agreements and partner contracts
- Provide clear, business-oriented legal advice to senior management and cross-functional stakeholders
- Support internal teams on regulatory change management and implementation
- Assist with employment and HR-related legal matters as needed
Requirements
- 5–8 years of legal experience, preferably within fintech, banking, or financial services
- Strong knowledge of U.S. banking regulations, including customer protection and payments-related frameworks
- Experience working with or advising on bank partnership models or sponsor bank relationships
- Proven ability to manage external counsel and complex legal matters
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to navigate ambiguity and support a growing startup
Preferred qualifications
- Experience working in a fintech or startup environment
- Background in product counseling within regulated industries
- Exposure to payments, lending, or embedded finance products
- Combination of law firm and in-house experience
