Product Quality Engineer – Materials
About the role
Cricut is seeking a detail-oriented and technically strong Product Quality Engineer – Materials to lead quality planning and validation for Cricut materials, including adhesive vinyl, heat transfer vinyl (HTV), printable coatings, specialty films, and related consumables with a heavy focus on material/machine interactions. This role is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive test plans that ensure new and existing materials meet Cricut's performance, reliability, machine compatibility, and user-experience standards. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in product development and understands how to translate customer use cases into measurable, repeatable validation methods.
Key responsibilities
- Test strategy & validation planning:
- In conjunction with engineering, develop comprehensive quality validation plans for new and sustaining materials (vinyl, HTV, printable substrates, laminates, specialty coatings, etc.) with a heavy focus on machine interactions
- Translate product requirements, user use cases, and regulatory needs into structured test protocols
- Define acceptance criteria, sampling plans, and statistical validation methods
- Establish Production Validation (PVT) test plans aligned with product development milestones
- Identify risks and define mitigation-focused test strategies
- Materials performance testing:
- Oversee quality testing for: adhesion performance (various substrates: fabric, wood, metal, glass, plastics); wash durability and wear resistance; environmental aging (UV, humidity, temperature cycling); print compatibility (ink adhesion, color fastness, coating integrity); cutter performance (cut force, weeding characteristics, backing stability); heat transfer performance (temperature, pressure, dwell time windows)
- Develop application simulations that replicate real customer crafting environments
- Cross-functional product development support:
- Partner with Product Management, Materials Engineering, Sourcing, and Suppliers to ensure quality is built into new materials and machines from concept through launch
- Participate in design reviews and provide quality risk assessments
- Lead Quality Reviews for key programs
- Data analysis & continuous improvement:
- Analyze test results using statistical tools to determine performance margins and robustness
