About the Role

The Product Quality Engineer reports to the Executive Manager, Smart Handling. This role focuses on total process and production quality for Daifuku’s Smart Handling products. It involves creating, directing, and participating in quality processes associated with the design, manufacture, and deployment of semi-complex Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) products and systems. The position coordinates with multidisciplinary teams, including engineering, project management, sales, manufacturing, and customers, to produce, maintain, analyze, and verify quality processes. The role also drives improvement recommendations related to productivity, quality, cost reduction, and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Create, lead, and participate in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Participate in Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
  • Develop and maintain quality processes and documentation associated with product design.
  • Lead and manage field quality issues, including root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Lead and manage containment plans related to quality corrective actions.
  • Engage in corporate quality processes for manufacturing feedback and engineering changes.
  • Ensure design and documentation quality.
  • Participate in Design for Manufacturing reviews.
  • Schedule and perform periodic reviews of design, deployment, and manufacturing processes to ensure compliance.
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders in collecting and analyzing data and feedback on product quality.
  • Provide structured and creative data analysis of manufacturing, customer, and product data to identify quality and process performance improvement opportunities.
  • Identify and raise issues that may impact project or product quality.
  • Create materials and present to external and internal teams.
  • Ensure Smart Handling quality process compliance with corporate guidelines.
  • Create and propose process and design improvements in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Recommend and implement quality process improvements.
  • Drive and participate in the product build process.
  • Determine and provide maintainability of the product.

Requirements

Knowledge:

  • English Language: Structure and content, including meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Engineering and Technology: Practical application of quality concepts to product and system design and manufacturing. Active participation in engineering processes impacting quality is expected.
  • Production and Processing: Manufacturing concepts and techniques, including process and material flow. Active participation in production processes impacting quality is expected.
  • Quality Techniques: Theory and practical application of DFMEA, PFMEA, and Design for Manufacturing concepts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience in an engineering management role preferred.
  • Experience with Project Management preferred.
  • 2+ years of related experience; direct experience in quality process development and execution preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in product design and/or manufacturing process design preferred.

Demonstrated Physical Abilities

  • Remain stationary for 50% of the time; move throughout the office to access files and equipment.
  • Operate computers and productivity machinery; inspect documents; communicate through talking/hearing; read/identify/assess forms and correspondence.
  • Customer site visits may require navigating industrial facilities, including climbing access ladders, negotiating screen guards, catwalks, and lifting/carrying objects up to 40 lbs.

Travel

Travel is expected to be up to 30%, or as necessary, to engage with internal and external stakeholders.
