About the Role

The Product Owner - Duck Creek serves as Digital Services’ liaison to stakeholders for a specific product, ensuring stakeholder needs are accurately captured, prioritized, and delivered. This role combines strategic planning, delivery oversight, and stakeholder engagement and may include leading a small team of business analysts. The Product Owner collaborates closely with IT, development, and QA teams to deliver business value and requires an advanced understanding of their product within the Surplus & Specialty ecosystem and the larger Crum & Forster organization.

The role supports the Underwriting, Claims, and Billing & Collections business units within Surplus & Specialty Lines (SSL), which underwrites admitted and non-admitted business for General Liability, Automobile Liability, Workers Compensation, Property, Inland Marine, and Excess/Umbrella lines across industries such as Contracting, Transportation, Energy, Security, and Environmental.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Planning
    • Represent the voice of the stakeholder/product team and articulate problems or opportunities while aligning to business strategy.
    • Foster strong relationships with stakeholders to anticipate future needs and translate goals into actionable digital initiatives.
    • Contribute to the product vision by collaborating with stakeholders to define and refine the product roadmap.
    • Own and maintain the product backlog, ensuring alignment with business priorities and strategic objectives.
    • Lead or facilitate design and discovery sessions to prototype solutions and gather feedback.
    • Establish and manage the scope and parameters of the product to define predictable outcomes and action plans.
    • Review the effectiveness and efficiency of the user experience and develop strategies for improvement.
  • Execution & Delivery
    • Prioritize and manage backlog items to ensure timely and high-quality delivery.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders regarding the product.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure requirements clarity, solution alignment, and testing readiness.
    • Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives to drive continuous improvement.
    • Communicate project status, risks, and outcomes to stakeholders at all levels.
    • Write clear and concise user stories with well-defined acceptance criteria.
    • Validate deliverables against business expectations.
    • Provide product demonstrations to business stakeholders.
    • Ensure post-implementation support, including training, documentation, and change management.
  • Team Management
    • Manage and mentor a team of 2–5 Business Analysts.
    • Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and identify training opportunities.
    • Review and approve requests for time-off.
    • Assess team capacity and allocate resources based on project demands.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum 6–8+ years of relevant experience in business analysis or product digital delivery.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Experience working with Duck Creek, Guidewire, or other similar Policy Administration platforms.
  • Strong understanding of P&C insurance workflows and systems.
  • Proven experience in business analysis, product ownership, or delivery leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholder expectations and drive consensus.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and problem-solving skills.

Pay

The annualized base pay for this position ranges from a minimum of $87,000 to a maximum of $140,000. Actual compensation is determined by factors such as market pay for the role, responsibilities, required skills, and employee performance. Eligibility for discretionary equity-based compensation and performance-based variable pay programs may also be available.
