Product Owner

About the role

As a Product Owner, you will drive the development and delivery of innovative products that meet user needs and business goals. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Developers, Designers, and Digital Product Managers, to define product requirements, prioritize features, and ensure successful product releases.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, analytical, curious, an effective communicator, and possesses a basic understanding of agile product delivery principles and practices.

Responsibilities

• Promote a culture where teams are inspired to collaborate; ensure everyone understands their part in the process.
• Practice the soft skills of Product Ownership such as team collaboration, attention to detail, and problem-solving.
• Lead agile ceremonies, such as sprint planning, backlog refinement, and sprint reviews.
• Collaborate with the development team to ensure clear understanding and acceptance of user stories for digital products.
• Maintain a prioritized product backlog for digital products with user stories; continuously refine the backlog to ensure clarity of product requirements.
• Write and own acceptance criteria within the team’s user stories with assistance from mentors and lead developers as necessary.
• Work with UX designers and developers to understand user experience across digital products and incorporate user-centered design best practices.
• Clarify requirements by finding answers to the team’s questions.
• Effectively communicate product updates and status to stakeholders.
• Learn the products and users to understand the purpose and vision behind enhancements and work.
• Participate in the planning and execution of successful product launches for digital products.
• Develop relationships with other Product Owners to learn from their best practices and experiences.

Requirements

• 4-year degree in IT, Engineering, or Business Management minimum; OR equivalent experience.
• Less than 2 years of experience as a Product Owner working on an agile software product team.

Skills

• Product Owner certification (e.g., CSPO) preferred.
• Passion for technology and an interest in understanding customer needs in the digital product space.
• Familiarity with product management tools, such as ADO, Jira, Trello, Lucid, and Confluence.
• Knowledge of UX/UI design principles.
• Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Understanding of program governance using both waterfall and agile methodologies combined with the ability to manage projects.
• Ability to quickly learn business processes and provide insight and guidance.
• Ability to gather requirements from business partners.
• Ability to break down strategic objectives into actionable work for development teams.
• Ability to convey concepts and ideas concisely in verbal and written form.
• Evidence of strategic thinking and experience executing in a fast-paced or cross-functional environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence and organize.
• Identify opportunities for process or technology improvements.
