About the Role
The Humanitarian Services Product Management team creates human-centered digital experiences for our clients and workforce, ensuring our products support successful mission delivery. Our products enable critical humanitarian services, including disaster financial assistance, situational awareness for response and logistics operations, and volunteer onboarding and workforce management.
About Our Volunteer Management Product: Volunteer Connection is a web- and mobile-based volunteer workforce management system. It supports the recruitment, matching, onboarding, training, deployment, engagement, and recognition of volunteers across the American Red Cross. We take a holistic view of the volunteer experience and continuously seek ways to make volunteering easier, help volunteers discover opportunities to contribute, and support the delivery of mission-critical services.
This is a virtual position. The selected candidate will work 100% remotely from home and can be located anywhere in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership to ensure successful execution of broader product strategy and vision.
- Plan prioritized work across multiple teams, minimizing dependencies and risks.
- Recruit and supervise contractor and volunteer associate product managers and business analysts, ensuring they meet goals and have resources to overcome obstacles.
- Provide coaching and training to other product management staff, ensuring work meets team standards.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of product team standards and capabilities, including identifying and implementing process improvement opportunities.
- Manage the product roadmap and product plans in accordance with business needs and priorities to deliver valuable and measurable outcomes.
- Advise business and product leadership on potential opportunities, challenges, and risks.
- Convert business strategy into system design and functionality; ensure alignment between technical and business units on strategy and solution proposals.
- Facilitate discovery and collection of business requirements from engaged stakeholders, applying varied design thinking and business analysis methods.
- Analyze and use trusted data to make evidence-based decisions and enable continuous improvement and measurable outcomes.
- Ideate with service designers and technical teams on product design and solutions, applying human-centered design and product design standards.
- Facilitate cross-functional business review and alignment of product requirements, collaborating with business programs, operations, finance, legal, security, user support, and other stakeholders.
- Create and organize Agile-oriented user stories into epics, phases, and functions in partnership with design, technical, and business leads.
- Coordinate with the Scrum Master and technical team to manage current and backlogged user stories.
- Direct staff of technical experts for specific business applications; monitor performance metrics and review system modification/change requests.
- Continuously learn and grow individual capabilities to keep pace with team, organizational, and industry growth and change.
- Manage vendor and partner relationships to ensure deliverables, timelines, and quality of service.
- Identify and resolve issues, influence stakeholders, and manage relationships effectively.
- Gather business feedback for incorporation into future development in collaboration with business leads.
- Provide and support clear communication of technical solutions to business partners.
- Serve as a technical advisor and guide to new business stakeholders.
- Ensure business units are prepared for and engaged in User Acceptance Testing.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree.
- Experience: Minimum 7 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Management Experience: Volunteer management experience desired.
- Experience coaching other product managers in a “player-coach” role.
- Experience working with diverse communities of end users and business stakeholders.
- Experience with system design and development processes, and business process redesign.
- Experience with Agile and waterfall development frameworks.
- Experience with design thinking methods.
- Business acumen.
- Proficient use of Microsoft applications (e.g., Outlook, Project, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint), collaboration and workflow tools (e.g., Confluence, Jira, Monday), and design tools such as Mural and Lucidchart.
- Ability to coordinate tasks and deadlines across concurrent projects.
- Skilled in relationship building and management with business and technical teams.
- Independent and self-motivated with excellent communication skills, including clear and effective writing and documenting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience working with internal customers, management, and outside vendors.
- Experience managing expectations and emerging issues.
- Experience consolidating technical and business information for leadership presentations and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a product manager for web and mobile-based digital platforms.
- Prior experience in nonprofit, humanitarian, or mission-driven organizations.
- Significant volunteer experience and/or managing volunteers.
Physical Requirements
- Depending on work assignment, may require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand, walk, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of up to 20 pounds.
- Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment, and read technical information.
- Overall mobility is essential. May include sitting for long periods of time, driving a vehicle, and working under challenging conditions.
Work is performed indoors with some potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to emergency services relief work. May travel and participate in meetings and conferences throughout chapter jurisdiction, state, and Red Cross system. Because the Red Cross is a disaster response organization, staff may be asked to be on 24-hour call during periods of major disasters and to deploy annually for a period of 2 weeks to support disaster mission delivery in-person on a disaster relief operation.
Pay
The annual salary range for this position is $105,000 - $125,000. Salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may determine your actual salary include your specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role.
