About the role
We are looking for a talented Product Design Technician - Level III to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Jamestown, NY.
Responsibilities
- Advancing specification quality — Applying advanced design skills to create and maintain accurate, standards-compliant drawings and models that strengthen product performance and reliability.
- Producing complex, high-fidelity models — Developing detailed 3D models, assemblies, and drawings while performing rigorous checking to ensure precision before release.
- Ensuring dimensional excellence — Utilizing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing to define clear, manufacturable specifications that improve fit, function, and downstream production quality.
- Maintaining configuration control — Using CAD data-management tools to safeguard design integrity, maintain revision accuracy, and ensure secure, traceable configuration control.
- Strengthening engineering collaboration — Partnering with engineering and cross-functional teams to process work requests, develop concept models, and validate design intent.
- Upholding global standards — Applying company, industry, national, and international standards to every model and drawing, contributing to consistent, world-class design practices.
- Mentoring emerging designers — Training and guiding less-experienced designers, elevating team capability and ensuring strong design fundamentals across the group.
- Driving drawing quality improvements — Leading or participating in Drawing Quality Reviews, identifying gaps, and helping refine standards and practices that enhance overall design quality.
Requirements
- Advanced mechanical modeling capability — The ability to create CAD models that accurately represent system-level design concepts and support analyses such as Dimensional Variation Analysis and Finite Element Analysis.
- Deep understanding of mechanical systems — A strong grasp of how mechanical systems behave across operating environments, enabling you to design robust, innovative solutions that meet customer and lifecycle requirements.
- Mastery of mechanical design specifications — Skill in producing complete, standards-compliant specifications—including solid models, BOMs, and detailed drawings—that clearly communicate design intent for manufacturing and inspection.
- Effective configuration and change management — The discipline to establish baselines, control revisions, process work requests, and maintain product integrity from concept through obsolescence.
- Clear, audience-aware communication — The ability to tailor technical information for engineers, manufacturing teams, suppliers, and leadership so decisions are informed and aligned.
- High trust and integrity — A reputation for honesty, consistency, and authenticity that strengthens collaboration and ensures others rely on your work and judgment.
- Cross-functional collaboration — The capability to engage with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and other partners to refine concepts, validate requirements, and ensure designs meet all expectations.

Qualifications
- High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.
- Regionally applicable certification or two-year Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study may be required.
Skills
- Knowledge of Calterm and calibration structure is preferred.
