At Capgemini Invent, we believe difference drives change. As inventive transformation consultants, we blend our strategic, creative, and scientific capabilities, collaborating closely with clients to deliver cutting-edge solutions. Join us to drive transformation tailored to our client's challenges of today and tomorrow— informed and validated by science and data, superpowered by creativity and design, all underpinned by purpose-built technology.

At frog, we are united by our shared passion for outcomes that transform the human experience. We tackle complex challenges, big asks, and things that have never been done before. We look beyond point solutions and apply design to the creation of new strategies, systems, and—in some cases—entirely new businesses. We believe diverse backgrounds and experiences create a stronger team. Our work is transformational because our people are extraordinary: analytical and artistic, conservative and unconventional, technical and whimsical. We build teams around divergent expertise to solve problems and uncover opportunities in unique ways.

About the role

This is an on-site, fixed-term position located in Boulder, CO, with a minimum 6-month contract and the possibility of extension.

Mechanical engineers at frog are embedded in the design team to deliver innovative design solutions to seemingly impossible problems. While we rethink traditional products, our work extends beyond the expected—spanning consumer products, transportation, store pop-ups, city-scale architectures, and physically mediated experiences. We brainstorm concepts, build evaluative prototypes, study emerging technologies, architect products, create manufacturing strategies, and ensure design intent is maintained through production. We balance conflicting project requirements while collaborating with frogs, clients, suppliers, and partners to ensure feasibility and excellence.

The ideal candidate will champion holistic design in an increasingly complex, connected ecosystem—where hardware, software, and services must integrate seamlessly. This role is hands-on, with equal time spent in the lab and at the CAD workstation, iterating builds in days. You’ll own the prototyping lifecycle end-to-end: turning early concepts into high-fidelity, production-representative samples, developing prototyping processes and tooling, and partnering with test engineering to validate performance. If you thrive on engineering rigor applied to materials that bend, stretch, and breathe, this is the opportunity.

Responsibilities

  • Innovate and solve problems, addressing unique constraints of softgoods materials in design and manufacturing.
  • Excel at core engineering tasks: design, prototyping, analysis, 3D CAD modeling (including Class-A surfaces), and documentation.
  • Analyze product geometry and develop tooling/fixture design concepts and CAD for softgoods components (textiles, silicone, leather, soft polymers).
  • Engineer proof-of-concept prototypes and define prototyping processes for small build quantities.
  • Perform First Article Inspection (FAI) and observe tooling setup, feeding learnings back into process and tooling improvements.
  • Prepare cut/print files for fabrication equipment (e.g., Zund cutter, laser, 3D printer) as needed.
  • Support hands-on fabrication during peak times.

Requirements

  • BSME or similar educational background.
  • 6–8 years of experience in product design engineering within consumer electronics, softgoods, or related industries.
  • Proven ability to lead complex design efforts and deliver results in cross-functional environments.
  • Solid 3D modeling capabilities (NX preferred), including Class-A surface development.
  • Experience in product architecture development, including feasibility studies, sizing, technology integration, mechanism design, and analysis.
  • Exceptional prototyping capabilities.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and design constraints, including injection molding, machining, softgoods (textiles, films, synthetics, leather, adhesives), and manufacturing process documentation.
  • Experience collaborating with vendors on DFM/DFA, tooling and fixture design, and First Article Inspection (FAI).
  • Proficiency in tolerance analysis and GD&T-based mechanical drawings (ASME Y14.5) to specify and communicate design intent.
  • Passion for design and creating products that resonate with people.
  • Self-motivated, excellent communicator, and a collaborative, fearless, positive team player who thrives balancing great design with short deadlines and contributing beyond your defined role.

Qualified candidates are encouraged to include an online or PDF portfolio with their application.
