A Product/Design Engineer completes assigned design projects in support of development and manufacturing activities and regulatory requirements by using thorough knowledge of design practices and good engineering concepts. Perform a variety of engineering work in design and development of products and their component parts, 2D/3D CAD, testing and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Develop bills of material, drawings and documentation to include design criteria, part numbers, assembly diagrams and standard products, etc.
  • Responsibility for product line design, application of products to customer requirements.
  • Convey information on new or updated products to the involved departments and personnel.
  • Work with manufacturing, purchasing and sales on selecting materials and processes.
  • Direct maintenance of certain department technical data on component parts, customer drawings and specifications.
  • Provide manufacturing support to resolve machining/assembly problems.
  • May provide technical support and assistance for design and customer service.
  • May evaluate and supervise disposition of returned product (RMA's) and make recommendations based on root cause analysis.
  • May conduct analytical studies on engineering proposals utilizing and applying engineering principles, research data and proposed product specifications to develop design for products.
  • Conduct product line order entry verification by the Technical Sales and Service Coordinators prior to manufacturing release.
  • May manage projects from conception level through release for production.
  • Field visits to handle product issues, if necessary.
  • Interact and communicate with all levels of employees within the Company, as well as suppliers, customers and peers effectively.
  • Comply with policies, procedures, standards and rules of the Company.
  • Maintain quality assurance policy consistent with ISO standards.
  • Maintain work area in a clean, orderly and safe manner.
  • Punctual, regular and consistent attendance.
  • Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Four year degree in engineering required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Experience preferred.
  • Familiar with both 2D and 3D CAD systems.
  • Good understanding of mechanical concepts and usage.
  • Ability to utilize engineering software tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office products with the ability to utilize and apply advanced spreadsheets and analytical techniques.

Physical and Technical Environment

Minimal lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend and stoop in a normal office environment. Ability to routinely travel throughout multi-floor office and shop area, walking, climbing stairs, utilizing elevator. Normal vision and manual dexterity for office duties. Normal office environment, on-going strict deadlines and changing project assignments.
