About the role
An established precision polymer and rubber components manufacturer in the western Dallas-Fort Worth metro area is seeking an experienced Product Design Engineer to join its engineering team. This is a full-time, on-site role responsible for guiding engineered elastomeric products from initial concept through tooling development and full-scale manufacturing. The engineer will collaborate closely with tooling partners, production specialists, quality personnel, and commercial teams to deliver high-performance molded and extruded solutions that meet rigorous customer specifications.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of custom thermoset elastomer components utilizing injection molding, compression molding, and extrusion manufacturing methods
- Partner with external tooling vendors to specify, review, and qualify injection molds, compression tooling, and extrusion dies
- Produce detailed 2D production drawings and 3D solid models using CAD software (Creo / Pro/ENGINEER preferred)
- Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles early in the product lifecycle to streamline production and minimize tooling iterations
- Support mechanical and electro-mechanical system design decisions involving material selection, machining methods, pneumatics, hydraulics, and automated or robotic processes
- Ensure all technical documentation and engineering changes adhere to ISO 9001 quality management standards and customer quality guidelines
- Conduct root-cause investigations, failure analyses, and comparative evaluations to solve complex production or design challenges
- Create structured project timelines and coordinate cross-functional milestones to ensure on-time delivery from prototyping through production handoff
- Deliver clear technical documentation, reports, and presentations to internal teams, suppliers, and external customers
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or a related engineering field
- Experience: 5+ years of hands-on product engineering experience focused on elastomeric, rubber, or molded polymer products
- CAD Proficiency: Strong 2D drafting and 3D modeling skills, with preferred experience in Pro/ENGINEER or Creo
- Manufacturing Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of tooling design, elastomer processing, mold flow, and post-molding operations
- Software Skills: Proficiency with MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and MS Project)
- Leadership Skills: Experience leading project teams, managing timelines, or supervising technical staff is a plus
