Product Design Director, IT

About the role

Rippling is a company that provides a single platform for managing HR, IT, and Finance. It consolidates various workforce systems such as payroll, expenses, benefits, and computer management. One of its key features is onboarding, where a new employee can be hired and their payroll, corporate card, computer setup, benefits, and third-party apps like Slack and Microsoft 365 can be set up within 90 seconds.

Requirements

• 8+ years of product design experience, including 5+ years managing and leading design teams
• A track record of bringing relentless customer focus to high-impact projects and driving strategic business outcomes through design
• Strong systems thinking, with experience leading the design of integrated suites or ecosystems
• A strong personal practice using AI tooling to accelerate design thinking, clarify requirements, explore product directions, and improve the quality of your work
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build alignment and influence stakeholders from individual contributors to executives
• Deep collaboration experience with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional partners to drive both strategy and execution
• Proven success hiring, leading, and scaling design teams at both startups and established companies
• A history of developing designers and helping them grow to do the best work of their careers

Qualifications

• Experience setting the vision and quality bar for IT management platforms
• Experience unifying fragmented workflows, including identity, access, device management, inventory, security, and compliance, into one coherent product with consistent patterns, policies, and reporting
• Experience rethinking IT workflows for an AI-first world, designing where the system should explain, recommend, automate, or ask for human judgment
• Experience making the fundamentals effortless, so everyday tasks like provisioning access, shipping devices, enforcing MFA, managing role changes, and offboarding employees feel automatic rather than administrative
• Experience raising the craft bar, shaping experiences that communicate security, control, and observability through every interaction and detail
• Experience mentoring and growing a world-class design team, running strong critiques, sharpening judgment, and helping designers do the best work of their careers
• Experience partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and customers to turn complex needs into clear priorities, fast decisions, and measurable business impact
