Responsibilities

  • Oversee sales and operations of the Produce Department, including quality control, merchandising, cleanliness, and organization.
  • Manage inventory and ensure maximum productivity and efficiency by adjusting schedules and staffing levels.
  • Engage and evaluate team members through coaching, feedback, and one-on-one development discussions; complete bi-annual performance reviews and make recommendations on merit increases.
  • Recruit, hire, and make promotion/transfer decisions in collaboration with the Store Manager.
  • Exercise independent judgment to address team member concerns, document corrective actions, and collaborate with HR on performance management, including coaching, counseling, progressive discipline, suspension, or termination.
  • Communicate standards, expectations, policy changes, and product knowledge to team members.
  • Lead a team to deliver the finest quality of product, highest level of service, and the greatest customer experience.
  • Serve as a Key Carrier for the store and/or act as a Manager on Duty (MOD) as needed.
  • Regularly attend and participate in in-store meetings.
  • Maintain general housekeeping in the department, including cleaning and sanitizing work areas (tables, floors, walls, cases, cooler, freezer, etc.).
  • Adhere to all safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age with 1-3 years of experience in a grocery retail setting, including management experience in produce.
  • Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including:
    • Standing, walking, bending, and climbing throughout the workday.
    • Lifting, stacking, and maneuvering heavy objects up to 50 lbs., from 4” to 72”, for distances up to 3 feet, for 10-50 hours without mechanical assistance.
    • Using a pallet jack to move pallets up to 20 feet, requiring a force of up to 85 pounds, for up to 5 hours.
    • Maneuvering six-wheel carts requiring a force up to 35 lbs., for up to 2 hours, a distance up to 20 feet.
    • Walking up to 5 miles in an 8-hour shift.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as business needs change.
  • Working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals.
  • Outgoing and friendly behavior with a positive attitude toward team members and customers.
  • Achieve and maintain a Food Handlers permit.
