About the Role
This position oversees all aspects of the produce department, ensuring profitability, productivity, and adherence to company guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Achieve desired gross profit and productivity levels.
- Project sales, product movement, and labor needs.
- Order product according to established guidelines.
- Receive and unload truck deliveries using available equipment.
- Establish daily work assignments and priorities for produce department personnel.
- Handle personnel issues, including interviewing, hiring, training, performance evaluation, discipline, and discharge, following established guidelines.
- Complete all required forms, records, reports, and verify receipts.
- Prepare weekly work schedules according to established guidelines.
- Stock and straighten merchandise and supplies.
- Mark items with correct selling prices using a pricing/label gun.
- Rotate merchandise according to anticipated shelf life and product expiration dates.
- Perform basic housekeeping duties using available equipment (mops, brooms, floor scrubbing, and buffing machines).
- Operate all required tools and equipment safely.
- Lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds (occasionally over 50 pounds).
- Ensure coolers and cases maintain appropriate temperatures.
- Maintain a neat and clean work area.
- Perform all essential job functions at an acceptable level of speed and accuracy.
Requirements
- Ability to work in temperature extremes (e.g., produce cooler maximum low temperature of 32 degrees).
- Standing and/or walking at a rapid pace for extended periods.
- Follow dress code and established safety policies and procedures.
- Follow written and oral instructions.
- Work well with others.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
- Legible handwriting or printing.
- Eyesight corrected to 20/20.
- Hearing corrected to normal range.
- Full range of motion in shoulders, arms, hands, legs, and feet.
