Produce Manager
Position Summary
The Produce Manager leads the Produce Department to deliver fresh, high-quality fruits and vegetables while driving sales, profitability, and an exceptional customer experience. This role is responsible for managing daily operations, maintaining product freshness, and developing a strong team to ensure top-tier execution.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all produce operations including ordering, receiving, stocking, and inventory control
Maintain product freshness, quality, and proper rotation to minimize shrink
Maintain full, visually appealing wet rack and display tables at all times
Execute seasonal sets, promotional displays, and ad features
Monitor and maintain proper temperature and storage conditions
Deliver outstanding customer service and ensure team members provide the same
Assist customers with product selection and provide knowledge on produce items
Maintain a clean, organized, and highly appealing department presentation
Ensure a fresh, abundant, and easy-to-shop environment
Team Leadership & Development
- Hire, train, and develop produce associates
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance management
- Create schedules aligned with business needs and delivery schedules
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and high standards for quality and execution
Financial Performance
- Drive sales through freshness, presentation, and in-stock conditions
- Control shrink, labor, and product waste to meet department goals
- Maintain key metrics including sales, gross margin, and spoilage
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and company policies
- Maintain proper handling, washing, and storage procedures
- Promote a safe work environment for associates and customers
- Adhere to all regulatory and operational standards
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required
Previous produce or retail management experience is preferred
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills are required
Knowledge of produce handling, rotation, and merchandising is essential
The ability to work in a fast-paced, perishable environment is necessary
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work in refrigerated and wet conditions
