About the role

MercyOne is seeking a Sterile Processing Tech II to play a critical role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of medical equipment used for patient care. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and values teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

• Decontamination & Sterilization: Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment per AAMI standards.
• Instrument Preparation: Inspect, assemble, and wrap surgical trays and equipment for use.
• Inventory Management: Maintain supply levels and ensure timely distribution to patient care areas.
• Equipment Handling: Operate specialized medical sterilization equipment safely and efficiently.
• Patient Support (Cedar Falls location only): Transport patients and assist nursing staff with pre-operative procedures.

What You Need To Succeed

• Education: High school diploma or GED required. Specialized training in sterile processing preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 6 months of experience working with surgical instruments or patient care support.
• Skills & Knowledge: Familiarity with medical terminology and sterilization techniques. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize urgent requests. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs; push/pull up to 150 lbs.
• Exposure to sterilization equipment, potential infectious materials, and a high-paced hospital setting.
• Must be comfortable working under pressure and following strict safety protocols.
