About the role

Lab technician(s) ensure the plant scientific and medical laboratory is prepared for taking test samples, keeping lab records, maintaining equipment, and providing data to support findings.

Safety Accountabilities – EHSQ Critical Role Level 3

Protecting our people and the environment is foundational to our business. Each team member is expected to support the Tate & Lyle culture where Environment, Health, Food Safety, and Quality (EHSQ) comply with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations. Responsibilities include:

  • Abiding by Life Saving Principles (LSP’s) and exercising STOP WORK AUTHORITY to prevent unsafe conditions and serious injury or loss of life.
  • Ensuring quality and food safety within their realm of control.
  • Adhering to area-specific EHSQ procedures and policies.
  • Supporting EHSQ Management System (EHSQMS) elements.
  • Reporting all incidents, defects, hazards, and inadequacies of procedures.
  • Participating in EHSQ-specific checks and inspections for policy adherence.
  • Compliance with procedures implementing EHSQ requirements.
  • Carrying out work in a manner that does not present a risk to themselves, others, or the environment.
  • Suggesting improvements to enhance safety, environmental responsibility, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Learn how to operate various lab instruments.
  • Understand and perform test methods used in both process and final product testing.
  • Analyze test results and make necessary adjustments.
  • Understand Certificate of Analysis (C of A) and its specifications.
  • Utilize the SAP system and navigate/enter data into Excel spreadsheets.
  • Perform calibrations and standard tests on lab instruments.
  • Prepare and collect product samples for outside testing.
  • Assist in investigating quality issues and findings.
  • Communicate test results and project updates with management.
  • Understand the hazards of chemical reagents used in test methods and general lab use.
  • Adhere to safety and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) policies and procedures.
  • Progress through the lab matrix within the allotted time and pass the written test for the lab matrix.
  • Perform and assist in lockouts and writing permits.
  • Review and follow Non-GMO policies and procedures.

Food Safety, Environment, Health & Safety Duty of Care

  • Carry out responsibilities according to food safety, legal, and quality requirements to ensure products are fit for human consumption.
  • Comply with all environmental standards, procedures, and work instructions; report any violations or near misses.
  • Adhere to safety policies, procedures, and site rules; fully participate in the safety program, including reporting incidents or near misses.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of manufacturing experience preferred.
