Process Technician
About the role
Vitro, the #1 manufacturer and distributor of automotive glass in North America, is seeking an experienced Process Technician to join our team in Elkin, NC. This role focuses on utilizing advanced technical skills and principles to improve production line processes, simplifying operations for Operators and Leads. You will collaborate with Engineering team members and production supervisors to train operators on technical process skills, enhancing production throughput. Automation engineers, process engineers, quality engineers, and technicians work together to achieve better results in an exciting, fast-paced environment.
This position requires flexibility in schedule to support the plant during off-hours, though the volume of off-hours contacts is expected to decrease as processes are streamlined and training improves.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical assistance to Production in resolving day-to-day production problems involving production equipment (e.g., CE, HE, VA1, VA3) to maximize efficiency, productivity, and reduce equipment downtime.
- Investigate process development problems, propose solutions, gather input from stakeholders, and implement approved solutions to support continuous improvement goals.
- Write job orders to correct malfunctions or improve processes, both short-term and long-term, to take ownership of improvement opportunities.
- Support and provide training to employees on the use of new or modified equipment within specific areas of accountability to ensure a qualified workforce.
- Work with Engineering to evaluate new products and equipment, including establishing parameters for testing and assisting in the actual testing to ensure comprehensive assessment before mass production.
- Order spare parts and supplies as necessary, determine adequate stock levels, and manage inventory adjustments for parts and supplies used in specific areas.
- Specify, design, or order production tooling or related items and assist in determining standards for key process variables to maintain quality and productivity targets.
- Participate in all blueprint reviews within specified areas of accountability to ensure production readiness of equipment.
- Work off-hours as needed to support the production line and complete other tasks to support team and business objectives.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in production or process roles; automotive experience is a plus, and automotive glass experience is required.
