About the role

Set up, monitor, and troubleshoot plastic injection-molding machines. Troubleshooting tasks include dealing with inconsistent material, faulty equipment, human error, and preventing defects. The Manufacturing Process Technician is responsible for all aspects of the injection mold processes including operation, repair, and maintenance of injection mold equipment to ensure the final product meets established quality standards and cycle times.

Responsibilities

  • Installs molds when Mold Setter is not available, ensuring proper and safe installation on machine platens.
  • Installs, sets up, and ensures all needed auxiliary equipment is functioning correctly.
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate hoists and other equipment safely.
  • Confirms, installs, and sets water lines, die height, ejection stroke, nozzles, heaters, hot runner controllers, hot oil heaters, and other equipment.
  • Follows and adjusts machine parameters according to mold set-up sheets.
  • Starts machines, checks part quality, has QA confirm, and puts the machine in production; notifies the Supervisor and operator.
  • Ensures the machine is set to run at standard cycle time.
  • Reads product drawings and uses equipment required to check quality.
  • Troubleshoots processing issues with acceptable outcomes.
  • Completes all paperwork and signs off orders in a timely and complete manner.
  • Maintains an organized and clean production area, ensuring a safe work environment.
  • Reports all safety, quality, and machine issues to supervision promptly.
  • Follows all procedures, rules, and works safely.
  • Ensures injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, and connected automated systems meet regulation parameters, quality standards, and production goals.
  • Sets up and starts molding machines, reads blueprints, and checks products using calipers, optical comparators, and other testing methods.
  • Provides feedback on mold design and assists tool and die makers to optimize cycle time and quality.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots processing problems, performs preventive maintenance, and documents process changes.
  • Applies all aspects of scientific molding.
  • Understands the importance of reducing and re-using material scrap to protect the environment and save costs.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Previous experience in a related field is preferred.
