Process Technician - 3rd Shift (11 PM - 7:30 AM)

About the Role

Provides technical support for manufacturing, focusing on production processes in molding and all secondary process operations. Assignments may be varied and not completely standardized or prescribed.

Responsibilities

• Performs start-up and shut-down of plastic injection molding machines and ensures that all sub-systems (e.g., water, materials, heaters, robots) are operational.
• Debugs and troubleshoots injection molding process problems for new or existing products to continuously improve part quality and yields.
• Makes adjustments within process parameters and recommends changes for improved efficiencies to the Sr. Process Engineer or department managers, including tool modifications, robotics, and injection molding machine process changes.
• Adjusts process parameters when needed and notifies appropriate resources; properly documents any changes made out of tolerance.
• Develops and documents standardized processes for various operations.
• Conducts and plans various tests and experiments which may require minor modifications in equipment setup and/or process parameters; analyzes data and reports results.
• Communicates and works closely with all areas of Engineering, Quality, Materials, and Operations.
• Leads in the development and implementation of lean manufacturing.
• Trains associates on equipment, molds, processes, and support equipment.
• Builds samples as requested and coordinates all required testing, paperwork, and delivery.
• Attends and participates in regular work team meetings.
• Maintains a high departmental standard for housekeeping in your area.
• Follows procedures pertaining to safety, including prescribed lock-out procedures when working on equipment to prevent injury.
• Ensures proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and regulated wastes, including used oil and aerosol can waste.
• Understands and fulfills responsibilities for health and safety in the workplace, including cooperating with OSHA inspectors, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, and reporting unsafe conditions or injuries immediately.
• Does not remove or make ineffective any protective device such as a guard or light curtain.
• Does not operate any machine or equipment without proper training or in a manner that may endanger employees.
• Provides employees with written instructions of safety measures and procedures; advises of potential or actual dangers.
• Understands responsibilities for visitors and the general public’s health and safety in the workplace.
• Understands and follows environmental programs, including ISO14001, and the importance of conformance with environmental procedures.
• Understands the EMS consequences, actual or potential, of work activities and behaviors from specified work instructions.
• Follows existing Magna policies, procedures, work instructions, and standards, and makes recommendations for continuous improvements.
• Performs other duties as required.

Level I

• An associate degree in plastics technology is preferred; or a minimum of three years’ experience in processing thermoplastics and a documented commitment to professional self-improvement.
• A solid understanding of SPC concepts and practice.
• Excellent interpersonal/team skills with strong written and verbal communication.
• Previous training experience.
• Previous experience solving problems and making continuous improvements without direct supervision.
• Willingness to advance skills through on-the-job training and additional schooling.

Level II (in addition to above)

• An AA degree in plastics technology and a minimum of three years’ experience in a closely related field; or a minimum of seven years’ experience in processing thermoplastics and a documented commitment to professional self-improvement.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. as needed.
• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and sit for extended periods of time.
• Must maintain proper vision requirements.
• Must be able to maintain alertness to surroundings.
• Must have a current and valid Driver’s License.
• Must have a working knowledge of English.
