About the role

The Process & Engineering Manager provides analysis, coordination, support, and leadership to enable the Monaca site and Dispersions Manufacturing North American Operations to achieve best‑in‑class performance in process engineering, reliability strategy, asset management, project management, operational excellence, and process safety. This role leads the development, coordination, and implementation of process engineering standards, technical initiatives, and capital projects that support safe, reliable, compliant, and efficient plant operations. The position serves as the site’s process and engineering authority, providing governance for process consistency, asset integrity, reliability engineering, and capital execution, while supporting delivery of Operational Excellence (OpEx) results and long‑term site performance. The position also serves as the Site Security Representative (SSR).

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and expertise for short- and long-range planning of production requirements, processes and staffing.
  • Provide development and coaching for direct reports.
  • Lead and recommend process modifications and improvements where required for product quality, costs, reliability and capacity.
  • Provide technical expertise in support of capital projects providing front end development and justification.
  • Work with commercial team leaders to ensure ongoing conformance with changing customer requirements, proactively identifying “hot spots” and developing truly effective improvements.
  • Lead development and execution of Operational Excellence (OpEx) plan.
  • Manage and execute capital projects within the BASF guidelines.
  • Oversee specific aspects of the site investment programs including project management, project assignment, resource planning, goal setting and priorities.
  • Champion adherence to the Technical Community best practices for equipment maintenance and reliability and promote continuous process improvements to enhance plant availability and reduce plant repair-factor.
  • Management of a team of employees who are responsible for maintaining and upgrading the process control system.
  • Manage Facilities/Site Security function: provide leadership/direction to the Monaca Site Leadership Team on facilities/security issues, indirect oversight of the plant security officers, serve as the Site Security Representative (SSR), manage information protection and the site access system, maintenance and upgrades of fence line security including cameras, fences and gates.
  • Responsible for site infrastructure to ensure support for existing plant operations and future site growth.
  • Lead the effort for the PHA and PSM processes and work closely with the EH&S Specialists to ensure site compliance.
  • Support the BASF Process Safety Program (e.g., maintain an open process safety culture, Zero Incident Mindset, establish appropriate personal and departmental goals, provide and complete training, monitor performance and report and investigate incidents).
  • Delegated site management and stakeholder (e.g., community, regulatory) responsibility in the absence of the Site Director.
  • Support and participate in the site ISO 9001, OSHA PSM, EPA RMP and RCMS programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in a chemical/petrochemical or other similar manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) to build and maintain relationships with both internal BASF employees and external customers.
  • Excellent individual and team facilitation skills with the demonstrated ability to lead project teams to successful implementation in difficult environments.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, collaborative and interpersonal skills.
  • Financial aptitude with the ability to manage capital budget and develop long and short strategies in conjunction with the Commercial group to meet business growth.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP planning, purchasing, and PM systems.
  • Customer focused with the ability to drive innovation.
  • Project management experience, including front end development, process design, cost and optimization preferred.
  • Experience in Dispersions and emulsion polymerization chemistry preferred.
  • Familiar with ISO, PHA, HAZOP, PSM, RCMS, RMP and SIS.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and ability drive process improvement and best practices.
