At the Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP), we are building a talented and diverse international team to create a cutting-edge quantum programme in Copenhagen, Denmark. Based at the Niels Bohr Institute—where Quantum Mechanics was formulated 100 years ago—we aim to establish an international quantum computing programme funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Our mission spans scalable quantum processor technologies, quantum-classical control and readout interfaces, and quantum algorithms and applications. The long-term goal is to develop fault-tolerant quantum computing hardware and algorithms that solve life-science-relevant chemical and biological problems.

About the role

The NQCP Materials team is seeking a versatile Process Engineer to develop and support activities focused on solid-state materials for quantum computing. Responsibilities may include developing, running, and automating characterization protocols for novel materials, with the aim of standardizing methods for reliable and precise extraction of relevant metrics. You will work in a hands-on, collaborative, and interdisciplinary environment alongside experts in materials growth, nanofabrication, characterization techniques, theory, simulation, and international partners from industry and academia.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in physics, material science, chemical engineering, or a related field
  • 3+ years of relevant academic or industrial experience with some of the following techniques:
    • SEM, FIB & TEM
    • AFM and other surface probe techniques
    • Nanofabrication
    • XRD and XPS
  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • Deep understanding of material properties and their underlying structures
  • Experience with systems engineering concepts, scripting for automation, and data logging
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate work in a complex research program

Pay

Salary is determined by the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector, with negotiation possible for salary supplements. Employment will be as an academic employee or special consultant, with compensation based on seniority.

Schedule

  • 37-hour workweek on average, with flexible working hours
  • Position is time-limited until 31 December 2029
  • Appointment is subject to receipt of a security clearance
