About the role

As a Process Engineer with Quikrete Heavy Construction Materials, your primary responsibilities are to lead plant discussions and investigations to improve throughput, efficiency, quality, and environmental performance. This is completed through data analysis, field measurements, and conversations with employees. You must be able to diagnose issues and develop solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Makes positive contributions to the plant safety activities and initiatives.
  • Provides technical support to the plant's production, quality, and environmental functions.
  • Evaluates operations, processes, and trends using audits and systematic approaches.
  • Supports the plant in achieving its objectives by assisting with process optimization.
  • Serves as a coach/mentor to other departments.
  • Coordinates and participates in improving the plant's technical capabilities.
  • Maintains compliance with internal control procedures - communicating problems in operations, unwarranted deviations from established standards, and violations of policy or law.
  • Challenges daily main equipment operations set points and practices in raw mix preparation, kiln operation, and finish grinding.
  • Monitors and interprets the daily quality results.
  • Works with plant cross-functional personnel, diagnosing process incidents in the field and determining root causes.
  • Analyzes process records and creates daily reporting using IP21 and other process tools.
  • Organizes and completes audits of raw mill, pyro processing, and finish grinding in autonomy.
  • Identifies deviations in process operations and proposes/validates corrective actions.
  • Interfaces with vendors, contractors, and engineering firms providing project support with engineering and technical know-how associated with capital project installations.
  • Works with equipment designers/manufacturers in determining equipment specifications for plant improvement and expansion projects.
  • Develops process and manufacturing improvement proposals.
  • Establishes, monitors, and maintains standard operation procedures needed to solve typical processes and system problems encountered at the plant.
  • Identifies environmental constraints and impacts on operating permits associated with modifications of process, fuels, and/or raw material changes.
  • Maintains a database containing the "base line" capabilities of all current equipment and processes.
  • Promotes new ideas and technologies in the process.
  • Collaborates with control room operators, shift supervisors, managers, and corporate engineers to analyze problems and improve operations.
  • Maintains compliance with MSHA and environmental laws and regulations.
  • Aids the Environmental Manager in managing plant issues (PSD, SWPPP, MACT, etc.) through record keeping, instrument maintenance, and testing.
  • Coordinates process-related activities occurring at the plant.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering.
  • MBA or relevant certification (CFA, CPA) and experience in a matrix organization, strongly preferred.
  • A high level of integrity and commitment to comply with all applicable federal/state/industry compliance, regulations, and standards.
  • A self-starter with strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills, capable of functioning in a fast-paced and evolving business environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal capabilities with the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, while building rapport with team members across functions/operating units and influencing at all levels of the organization.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites with accurate data entry skills.

Qualifications

  • Must be available to report to the designated work site/office and be ready to begin work when scheduled, in a 24/7 operation.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screening which may include a physical, background check, and drug screen.
