About the role
This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining process automation solutions for pharmaceutical process applications utilizing the Emerson DeltaV distributed control system (DCS).
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain process automation solutions for pharmaceutical process applications using Emerson DeltaV DCS.
- Familiarity with ISA-88 Batch; collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Integrate Emerson DeltaV systems with various process equipment, instruments, and control devices to ensure seamless operation and data exchange.
- Develop custom control strategies, logic, and sequences using DeltaV programming languages (e.g., Function Block Diagrams, Sequential Function Charts).
- Configure communication protocols (e.g., OPC, Modbus) for interfacing with third-party devices and systems.
- Conduct thorough testing of Emerson DeltaV configurations to verify system performance, functionality, and compliance with user requirements and regulatory standards.
- Prepare and execute validation protocols, including IQ/OQ/PQ, and generate documentation in accordance with GMP guidelines.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to resolve issues related to Emerson DeltaV systems, including alarms, deviations, and process disturbances.
- Understand aspects of deploying automation systems in IT-based environments, including server/client virtualization, managed networks, cybersecurity, and domain authentication.
- Act as lead on some projects, interfacing directly with clients and providing guidance to junior-level engineers.
- Ensure compliance with all regulations, codes, etc., as they apply to the contract and project.
- Up to 30% domestic travel as needed and customary for the occupation.
Requirements
- BS in Electrical or Chemical Engineering is preferred.
- 5-15 years of experience in the following areas is preferred:
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements governing pharmaceutical manufacturing (e.g., FDA, GMP, GAMP).
- Proficiency in programming languages and tools used in Emerson DeltaV programming (e.g., DeltaV Function Blocks, Control Studio).
- Familiarity with process instrumentation, control valves, and fieldbus communication protocols.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex automation issues.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Pay
The expected salary range is $120,000 to $180,000 per year based on qualifications, plus a discretionary bonus and employee stock program.
