Responsibilities
- Coordinate and schedule medical procedures by communicating with patients, physicians, and clinical staff to confirm availability and requirements.
- Verify patient information, insurance coverage, and pre-authorization status to ensure compliance with healthcare policies and reduce scheduling errors.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date scheduling records in electronic health record (EHR) systems and other scheduling software.
- Manage appointment changes, cancellations, and rescheduling promptly while minimizing disruptions to clinical operations.
- Provide patients with clear instructions regarding their procedures, including preparation guidelines and arrival times.
- Collaborate with multiple departments such as radiology, surgery, and outpatient services to optimize resource utilization and appointment flow.
- Address patient inquiries and resolve scheduling conflicts with professionalism and empathy.
- Monitor daily schedules to identify and resolve potential bottlenecks or overbooking issues.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate degree or higher is preferred.
- Previous experience in medical scheduling, healthcare administration, or a related field is desirable.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical scheduling software is essential.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously are necessary.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are crucial for interacting with patients and healthcare professionals.
