About the Role

The Auburn Municipal Court is looking for a Probation Services Supervisor to assist the Judges and Court Administrator in developing probation services guidelines and policies ahead of the reopening of Auburn Municipal Court. This is a unique opportunity to grow professionally, problem solve, provide meaningful public service, and bring stability and purpose to court users and stakeholders.

The City of Auburn is conducting this recruitment to establish a qualified hiring pool in anticipation of City Council consideration and approval of funding for this position as part of the City’s budget process in September 2026. Candidates may participate in the recruitment and selection process prior to final budget approval; however, no appointment or offer of employment will be made unless and until the position and associated funding receive all required City approvals.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, coordinate, and participate in the daily work of the Probation Services Division, assigning and monitoring caseloads, reviewing work for quality and timeliness, and assisting staff with complex or sensitive cases.
• Develop and implement efficient and effective divisional procedures, ensuring established goals, priorities, procedures, performance expectations, and objectives are met, in coordination with the Court Administrator; analyze the effectiveness of the division’s operations and recommend changes.
• Maintain an active caseload and perform Probation Officer duties as necessary to balance workloads, provide coverage during absences, address staffing shortages, or manage high-priority or complex cases.
• Oversee jail alternative programs including, but not limited to, Electronic Home Monitoring and random drug testing, including contracts, expenditures, and audits.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Psychology, Behavioral Science, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience related to probation services, court support services, case management, criminal justice programs, social services, or a related field or a combination of relevant education and experience.

Certifications and Licenses

• Possess and retain a valid Washington state driver’s license without impending loss at time of appointment.
• Successfully complete the Correctional Services Academy training within six (6) months of employment as required by WAC 139-10-210.
• Successfully complete Ohio Risk Assessment System End User training within six (6) months of employment.
• Fingerprinting and completion of the CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) Security Certification Test to access sensitive information and have unescorted access at the Police Department (per Washington State Patrol ACCESS unit).
