This position is with the Supreme Court - Agency 5 and is not eligible for STEM (form i-983) or non-immigrant work visas.

About the role

This classification level is responsible for managing, training, and supervising daily activities and employees within a specialized unit, district field service division. The position covers the Sarpy and Cass Counties Juvenile division, with the home office located at 1410 Wall St Suite 100, Bellevue, NE 68005.

Regular travel within the district is required for community visits and support operations. Occasional regional travel may be needed for orientation, training, and educational workshops.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise assigned probation unit staff, including planning, prioritizing, and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; coordinating staff training; and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures.
  • Manage and direct day-to-day probation operations and functions for the assigned specialized unit, ensuring conformance to work standards, operating procedures, and system policies.
  • Conduct presentence/predisposition reports and/or supervise an active caseload in accordance with system rules and regulations.
  • Train probation staff in practices, policies, and procedures associated with the supervision and investigation of offenders, and monitor their compliance with system standards.
  • Evaluate lower-level staff case plans and intervention strategies to ensure quality and compliance; provide guidance on challenging or unique cases.
  • Supervise the investigation of violations, discuss sanctions, monitor cognitive group therapy meetings, and supervise drug testing.
  • Review probationer progress reports, arrest or detain probationers per statute, and perform field and home visits for assessment and reassessment.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as required by departmental needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, criminal justice, or related fields.
  • Seven years of experience working in a probation system or related organization; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • All educational credits must be granted from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Department of Education.

  • Customer service and supervisory principles.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system, laws, legal codes, and court procedures.
  • Interview and assessment procedures, intervention policies, and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and make sound, evidence-based decisions.
  • Exercise independent judgment in situations affecting individual liberty, child safety, or family stability.
  • Verbal de-escalation, conflict resolution, and maintaining professionalism in challenging interactions.
  • Physical intervention skills in accordance with training and safety protocols.
  • Preparing reports, updating databases, and utilizing communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Operating computers and related software applications.

Physical Requirements

  • May be subjected to environmental threats, odors, dust, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and travel.
  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.

Pay

  • Starting Salary: $66,495.93 annually (Hiring Rate).
  • 2.5% pay increase after successfully completing the probation period (if starting at Hiring Rate).
  • Higher starting pay may be considered based on education and experience, subject to final management approval.
  • Annual cost-of-living adjustments (applied on July 1) are subject to State Legislature approval.

Schedule

Primarily day shift, with occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays required.
