Probation Officer

Full-time, non-exempt position located at 405 Argentine Street, Georgetown, CO 80444. This role requires one day per week travel to the Summit location during work time. Salary range: $58,418.40 - $84,707.64.

About the role

The Judicial Department works to provide equal access to justice, contribute to public safety, and strengthen the rule of law across Colorado. This is an entry/developing-level Probation Officer position performing investigation, assessment, supervision, resource coordination, and monitoring of clients’ court-ordered services. This position is part of a progressive job series; placement will be determined based on minimum qualifications and relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform case management duties including documenting client-related activities, reviewing client documents and court orders, and managing the client's e-file.
• Conduct face-to-face appointments and interviews.
• Conduct ongoing assessments to determine treatment needs and risk to the community.
• Develop appropriate case plans to guide supervision and ensure compliance with conditions imposed by the court.
• Assess, prioritize, and respond to critical incidents and potential risks in the field and office.
• De-escalate hostile/agitated clients and potentially violent situations.
• Complete a variety of reports to assess criminal behavior and provide relevant information and sentencing options to court.
• Submit comprehensive compliance reports to the Court, including revocation documents, while protecting confidential information.
• Update the Court as needed and provide professional testimony.
• Inform staff, stakeholders, and the public on the Victim Rights Amendment.
• Respond to community feedback regarding clients and probationers in the community.
• Collect victim statements/positions for various court proceedings.
• Collaborate with other judicial districts and states on victim-related concerns.
• Attend meetings and complete training as required.
• Occasionally direct helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, human services, or related field.
• OR an associate's degree in the same fields plus two (2) years of work-related experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, social work, psychology, or related field.
• OR a High School Diploma or G.E.D plus four (4) years of work-related experience in the same fields.
• Work-related experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, social work, psychology, or similar field.

Skills

• Ability to de-escalate hostile or potentially violent situations.
• May assist in budget monitoring and data collection for functional area budget allocations.

Physical Effort & Work Environment

• Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
• Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions, hazards, and/or risk.
• Occasional outside work.
• Exposure to hostile or irate individuals, individuals with known violent backgrounds, communicable diseases, and bodily fluids.
