Probation and Parole Officer - District 13 Sub Office

Responsibilities

• Investigates offenders' home, work, and social environments for circuit courts/Parole Board; collects, verifies, and evaluates data; incorporates findings into reports and records.
• Assesses needs and risk levels to determine appropriate supervision strategies ensuring effective offender management and public safety; submits reports to designated legal authorities.
• Contacts offenders in their homes, places of employment, or confinement and counsels them regarding personal and adjustment problems.
• Attends court to receive assignments and make reports.
• Assists in vocational, educational, and social adjustment planning for assigned offenders; cooperates with public/private agencies and law enforcement.
• Investigates offender violations; takes appropriate action, including issuance of warrants.
• Prepares statistical reports of activities; administers and observes breathalyzer/urinalysis testing.
• Assists in special investigations, research projects, and other activities; serves on committees/task forces within the Department and community.
• Performs other related work as assigned; as proficiency is demonstrated, supervision becomes more general.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.
• Successful completion of safety training, including defensive tactics, and the ability to re-qualify annually.

Qualifications

• Four or more years of experience as a Probation & Parole Assistant, Correctional Officer, or Office Support Assistant (or above) within the Missouri Department of Corrections.
• OR four or more years of vocational or paraprofessional experience in social services, probation and parole, corrections casework/custody, law enforcement, guidance/counseling, mental health, health, substance use, public/business administration, or closely related experience.
• Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.

Pay

• Guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service, up to 20 years.
• Eligible for additional differentials:
  • $2.00 per hour shift differential if assigned to a shift beginning between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am at a 24/7 congregate care facility (e.g., institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
  • $0.75 per hour medium security or $1.50 per hour maximum security differential for full-time work at a qualifying facility.
  • $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if assigned a regular post within a restrictive housing/segregation unit.
