About the role

Department: Division of Global Engagement. Rank: Instructor. Annual Basis: 12 Month. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis and reviewed as needs arise. A complete application must include a current resume/CV and three professional references with contact information (references will not be contacted until you are notified). The Division of Global Engagement works to make the University of Oregon a more global university, supporting international engagement as a core mission. Units include International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), Global Education Oregon (GEO), and Global Studies Institute (GSI). The Global Studies Institute supports internationally-oriented research centers, programs, and initiatives to enhance faculty research, enrich the student experience, and promote academic excellence worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Design, lead, or manage for-credit and/or non-credit educational opportunities that support UO's Global Engagement Mission.
  • For-credit courses to support students navigating global engagement experiences (e.g., study abroad programs, international internships, global research projects).
  • For-credit courses to support the ability of UO's international student community to achieve academic and professional goals.
  • Non-credit seminars or instructional opportunities introducing UO students to key global themes and issues.
  • Non-credit seminars providing professional development to students, faculty, and professionals from UO's partner institutions worldwide.
  • Online or remote instructional modules enhancing ability of UO's student population to succeed in remote and online instruction.
  • Other instructional opportunities supporting UO's Global Engagement Mission.
  • Connections to professional practice and emerging technology/ideas in international education or intercultural communication are highly desirable.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Two years of experience in teaching or instructional design for an institution of higher education OR in the field of international education (broadly defined).
  • International experience through study, employment, or residence abroad.

Qualifications

  • One year of experience teaching or designing curriculum in an international or cross-cultural environment.
  • PhD or other terminal degree.
  • Experience with program management in an international context.

Skills

  • Ability to teach credit courses, non-credit seminars, professional development programs, in-person or online to a variety of learner populations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to exercise sound, independent judgement that aligns with strategic and operational goals.
